Ram 1500 EcoDiesel VS Ford F150 EcoBoost to pull a 7600 lb Airstream

We tow about 6500 lbs. So far we have 4800 miles on our 1500, ecodiesel, 2600 towing. No problems, transmission maintains speed and temps through all conditions. Always tow in tow/haul mode, milage towing arround 14mpg, when not towing in mixed driving ,about 50/50 it delivers a solid 22 mpg us.so far so good, We have the air suspension and the ride is great. You do have to be cautious about weights in the bed. Overload it and you will get an engine warning light. Although we ordered a 3.92 rear our truck was delivered with the 3.55. Again so far so good.

I believe the key detail was the op's statement that they would be "full time" RVing. The ecodiesel would be ideal for daily driving and occasional towing, but I believe the 2500 would be worth the extra money. Just like others pointed out, the exhaust brake and heavier suspension and tires will be better suited to full time towing. I would stay away from the gas burner (ecoboost or otherwise) for anything other than just occasional towing.

This is just my opinion. Any of the trucks me tioned WILL pull your trailer, but the heavier truck will do it with less stress to the driver.

I just traded my 6 month old ed for a Cummins. Wouldn't pull my trailer with enough safety factor for me.
