The tires are matched to the trucks suspension and axle capacity. Ram advises against a slide in camper with the 2500 due to the design of rear suspension so the 1500 will be worse for the wear. The comments on here are not meant to be negative, just sound advice. Maybe once you get some miles under your belt with that slide in you can report back with some honest feed back.

No it is not too whimpy. Neither is the 1500 in terms of power. It is all about the capacity and the design of the rear suspensions ability to handle top heavy loads.

Most of it is based on center of gravity and payload (on the 2500). Besides the tires, the wheels are probably rated somewhere near the tires and are often over looked when trying to add load carrying ability. But any way you look at it you are still not legal. But if you want to have fun like that it is your choice and like I tell my kid, there are possible consequences to your actions.

Sounds like the kind of advice i would get from a power choke drver.
What have you got against Dodges buddy.
I am looking into tires though. Those "P" rated tires are way to whimpy
For hauling a camper.
Looking at my sig you should see I am ok with dodge but I would not purposely buy an underrated truck. I doubt the 1/2 ton will get better mileage than the Cummins with an overhead camper nor will the engine return the same life .

I think the trouble im having getting usefull information
Here is due the fact that im asking people with 3/4 and 1ton
Trucks for advice on 1/2 ton trucks. Of course the only answer
I am getting is to get a 3/4 or 1Ton truck. I was getting rather anoid
By the same answer over and over again but finally had to
Come to the conclusion the uless i went to a 1/2 ton truck site
I was not going to get any half ton truck answers. So I. Did.
I have found that people with half ton fords chevys and yes even
dodges are quite happy with the way
Their Lance 825s ride on thier trucks.
The trick is just putting on some air bags and set of LT rated tires.
Sorry I bugged you big truck guys. How could you have known.

Yup. Lol. I had a 1/2 ton Chevy in the past with some killer suspension for its time. With an aluminum pop up camper that only weighed 1500lbs wet and loaded for a week end just did not have enough braking power. I was able to correct the short comings of course by stepping up to 3/4 ton axles and brakes. Not cost effective but I loved that truck so yes you can make a 1/2 ton work but why???

You can lead a horse to water.............but you can't make them read the owners manual! Some folks think the specs on a truck are simply recommendations.

What im trying to say is. That 11'3" lance camper you have in your truck sig weighs 2000lbs
More than your truck is rated to carry.
How are you able to do that without
Wrecking your truck ?

Are you reading the same signature that I am???

"2005 Dodge 3500 DRW, 4x4, 325/610 HO, 6 speed NV5600, Laramie H, Quad Cab, 3.73 gears, Flame Red, Luverne SS Running Boards w/Box Boards, Luverne SS Push Bar/Grill Guard, BrakeSmart, PacBrake
2008 Arctic Fox 5th Wheel, 27-5L
SOLD 95 CTD, DRW, 4x4 and 98 11' 3" Lance Truck Camper"

With the DRW's I don't think he is/was overloaded in either case.

Bottom line is it appears you are upset because you are not hearing want you WANT to hear, rather you are getting solid advice from people who have been there and done that. It appears all you are doing is looking for validation for a decision you have already made for yourself. Like someone said... you can lead a horse to water....

Are you going to have any issues with said setup?? Maybe, maybe not... So people that have done the same (or are trying to sell you something) brag about not having any problems, so what, it doesn't mean it's the correct action to take when you consider all factors and ratings. 5 times out of 6 your not going to have a problem playing Russian Roulette with a 6 shot revolver either, but are you willing to take the risk??

He will be the first to cry when his overloaded truck is denied warranty

How does he get denied warranty when the camper is several hundred pounds under carrying capacity? Sounds to me like a lot of you are tying to justify the purchase of a 3/4-1ton diesel to tow your car trailer.

Thanks for the backup but i think the camper will put me about
5-600 over gross. Thats why i will have to upgrade the tires
And add air bags. Sway bars are also recommended to reduce rocking on corners The
truck comes with those.
