This Will Spoil Your Whole Day...

When I had my 94 2500 V10 we bought the 3600lb Caribu which the dealer said would carry just fine. After the white knuckle drive home I couldn't believe they let me drive that thing off the lot.



After adding air bags it handled very well. Then a blowout of a rear tire at 75 down the interstate I put on a clean pair of pants and bought a DRW.



I bought the slide in to be able to go into the outback. The picture in my readers rigs is a spot I found to stop for lunch on the way home. It took about 5 min. in 4 low to get there. Didn't want to leave with that view and no one around.

Which law are you refering to, or did you decide it was only your thoughts and opinions? :confused:

I am not aware of a "law" prohibiting the operation of an over-gross vehicle. If there is such a law, 99% of the Class C Motorhomes on the road are in violation, as most of them are within 1,000 pounds of gross - without fuel, water, operator, passengers, accessories or gear... :)



I don't have much faith in the civil/tort law/system in the US, since people can win multi-million dollar awards for spilling hot coffee on themselves... because of that, I assume that a person operating over-gross would be at a disadvantage in any civil litigation arising out of a collision with the over-gross vehicle - whether the vehicle was safe/stable/different from the 1-ton or not. :rolleyes:



I carried a 4,000 pound Lance camper on my SRW F350 for five years without incident, and I never wanted for stability. [I had air-bags, suspension mods, and Goodyear 37" MTRs (each capable of carrying in excess of 4000 pounds with operating pressures that made them less subject to sidewall flex. )] Now we've got a 2004 Dodge diesel, and we're considering the same set-up. Thanks to the informative folks on this site, I know my 2500 has the same rearend, frame, brakes, bearings, and other critical components as the 3500, so I feel safe moving ahead with the planed camper installation. If it handles as well as my Ford, I'll be delighted - and I'm sure it will. :-laf

Sooooo, why does the factory favor hauling a slide-in with a gasser and NOT with the Cummins? (2500 vs 3500 DRW aside) I am curious as well.
