My Spare tire and wheel was lost or stolen.

I replaced the spare tire winch as the cable was broken.

Now I need a new wheel and tire. Local Dealer suggested a spare steel wheel alone for a 2005 3500 Dually would be $200.

Online Dodge parts stores sell for $150 or so, but how do I know if its the right wheel/part number?

Existing wheels have 8 lug nuts and have 17" tires. I don't know anything about wheel "specifications", so a part number or wheel size would be helpful, or a referral to a cheap vendor or recycler would be appreciated.

Any advice is appreciated!

So far the TDR boards and magazine have been very helpful!

To bad you are so far away. I've got three extra wheels. I got a full set plus extras from auto wreckers. Check your yellow pages or go on the net and you should be able to find wrecking yards in your area.

Thanks!

I've been keeping my eye on E-Bay for weeks. So far, 3500 17" wheels haven't appeared, but I will keep watching and call some junkyard/recyclers.

I don't mind paying $150 if need be, but I also want to be sure its the correct wheel.

Local junkyard

Calling several junkyards turned up no wheels. Dealer recommended junkyard may get one someday and indicated they would want $100 for it. Hmm, $150 isn't so bad. Still monitoring E-Bay for a better deal, no luck so far.

Not having one sure made changing Diff fluid easy...

I bought a CABLE lock from OSH and it will hold the wheel up if the trucks cable hoist breaks. Chances are someone cut it to get your spare. That's another reason for the cable lock

E-Bay finally has some Dodge Ram 3500 Steel Wheels - can anyone confirm the "spare' wheel is just like the regular wheels versus being unique/lightweight as is usually the case with autos.

When I bought the truck used in FL, and eventually looked for the spare, all that was there was splayed cable from the winch. So I bought and installed a new winch.

PS, Um, how do I know if I need a 17x6. 5 OR 17x7. 5 inch Wheel??
The bolt pattern seems to be consistent: 8x6. 5
Current tires are Ameritrac General LT235/80/R17
Its tough being a newbie!

Thanks!

I had a spare wheel in the garage for about 2 years and finally threw it in the trash because I figured it wasn't worth anything to anyone. Sorry.

Alas, lost E-Bay auction as was having dinner with DW and winner beat me by a dollar at $91. Not sure I really want to pay that much knowing factory wheels are sitting around after upgrade, albeit not so much for 3500s versus the other models.

Oh well, keep trolling E-Bay...

Charles, up here in Birmingham there is a place called Palmer Brothers. They have the rim you're looking for, 100 bucks. They are a used Mopar/Dodge yard. If you need electronics for your Dodge, just walk 500 ft to the next building. LOL

Called Palmer Brothers in Birmingham, no luck. A wheel company on E-Bay wants well over $100 vice auction I lost at $91. Will keep watching. Suggestions are appreciated!

Mission Accomplished! I think. E-Bay auction seller sent second chance offer for $90, which I accepted. Now to find a "cheap" General Ameritrac Tire to match...

Merry Christmas!

did ya get one

i have a 2006 mega cab 3500 that started its life out as a short box srw and it has been converted to a long box dually

but i still have the original factory 17 hanging under the truck i would give it to you if u pay shipping from 75024

Special Thanks and Kudos to Burner and all who provided advice!

The E-Bay Wheel arrived yesterday. Burner and I connected late last night and gave me a good condition tire. He also provided much great advice and has a brand new Black 4x4 Megacab 3500 CTD.
Its also great to recycle!

Plan is to mount and install today courtesy of my local Auto Hobby Shop.

TDR is the best!

Merry Christmas and have a wonderful weekend!
