garyp285 - do you have access to another similar trailer you could hook up to your truck? I'd be interested to know what happens.

Regarding the complexity and whether to change or not. Think of it this way - years ago electronic fuel injection occurred which had many inputs to determine the correct amount of fuel. When folks had issues it became a "piece of crap" because it didn't work. And instead of understanding how it was supposed to work to determine how to fix it, folks replaced it with a carburetor since they knew how to make it work - since they understood it.

Same here. Over time, like fuel injection, folks will understand how it is supposed to work to be able to fix it properly - or know it isn't worth fixing and replace it with a carburetor (however, the carb will not help the trailer stop).

Sorry I have nothing to update, except I traced the blue 12 gauge brake wire from pin box to under belly, and somewhere before coming out to the axles it changes to 16 or 18 gauge tiny wire.
I have a 12/2 appointment at the factory for several items, and do not want to remove the coroplast ( which is fastened with ramset pins instead of screws) until they see it, and will request all wire be at least 12 gauge.

I installed a DirecLink 50 this week as a replacement for my factory ITBM. It’s a wonderful improvement. Full voltage available at the manual lever no matter what speed or brake setting as well as full selected gain at low speed. As wiredawg said, no MIL. Simple replacement. I can only suspect the malfunction light comes when the controller is disconnected from the module. It’s not necessary in my instance.
