Thank you gentlemen for the good information. I think I will stick my nose under the tent and see what it's like. I especially like the suggestion of getting a HAM scanner and listening in to see what is going on. Also glad to hear there is relatively inexpensive equipment out there to get started. Just conservative I guess, but I like to stick just a toe in first!

Getting started is as easy as going to Radio Shack and buying the book "now your talking". It talks about ham radio, and includes all the test questions with the correct answers (and explanations) for your first test. Read it a couple times and go take the test.



As far as Radio Shack, just get the book there, the radios they sell are over priced.
