The ramtrucks.com site has a link under the owners section that allows you to input the vin and check for open recalls. I checked our 2010 and it wasn't listed so far.

After reading this, I was trying to remember what year they started the gear shift/brake safety interlock. My '87 Corvette doesn't have one. Was it mid 90's sometime.

Saw that on the news, going to check for recall, I thought the news said it’s a (transmission can jump out of park) issue, not really something I want to happen.

I've checked my VIN a few times on safercar.gov since the announcement and my 2011 isn't added, yet, even though it is a column shift

And... got the recall notice from mopar in today's email.
No fix or parts, yet. Figure it'll be next decade or so :)

I got a notice also. I didn’t realize this involved manual transmissions.
That's odd... only automatics have the "brake-transmission shift interlock device".

The company says the brake-transmission shift interlock device can fail due to long-term exposure to high interior temperatures linked to an electrical problem. That can let the shifter move out of park without the brake pedal being pressed or without a key in the ignition. The problem increases the risk of the trucks rolling away accidentally.

Is the brake pedal switch that deactivates the cruise control and activates the brake lights on the manual trans trucks the same as the switch on the automatics?

MotorCity Mechanic on his YouTube website was kind enough to explain the T79 recall, and just what is failing in the switch assembly. Not sure if the steering wheel will have to come off to access this Interlock switch. He explains as well the override lever and how to move the gear selector in event that you are unable to move the gear selector out of park,or into park.

I was going to say...
I've never had the column shifter fail to keep my shifter locked in park without applying the brakes. I have, however, had the thing block shifting into gear with the brakes. I hear it click, but the shifter won't move. Intermittent and annoying, but it eventually figures out what it's supposed to do :)
