I was out of state and on vacation when my 2012 Ram 1500 was totaled by someone who ran a red light… and since I was towing an Airstream I needed to buy a truck for the return trip home. The local Ram dealer first showed me a ‘25 Ram with the new “Hurricane” engine… a dual-turbo 6-cylinder…and, having once-before purchased an introductory-model car and suffered thru it’s growing pains… I immediately “Nixed” that …and asked “what else do you have with ramboxes?”

I don’t care for the looks of the ‘25 models as being too over-emphasized. They seem mindful of those women who wear huge eyelashes and it strikes me as distracting. I like the look of the present and previous trucks.

THAT is how I ended up with a ‘24 Ram 2500 Limited w/6.7 CTD which is presently mesmerizing me. I am amazed at how Fine this truck is and how easily it tows.
My only concern is the plethora of complaints and concerns I read about in online-forums by owners who have endless complaints about their engine troubles…

I am hoping that these are the exceptions and not the norms…. but I do realize this Cummins-powered 2500 is NOT going to be the economical truck my previous 1500 gasser was. As the moderator of a maintenance/discussion forum myself (not automobile) …I realize that forums attract those with problems (both personal And with their machines)… and do not equally represent the majority of owners who enjoy good performance and reliable service.

I have to admit that this Cummins certainly is capable, especially compared to that little 4.7L V8

You towed with the 4.7L?! You are about to come to a realization that the 2500 Cummins RAM is way more economical than the 4.7L that's known for it's DRINKING PROBLEM when towing. At least the Cummins will pass a fuel station.

Sad about your truck being totaled. Hopefully you and your passengers are ok.

@Tuesdak and Diesel85 … YEP! The little 4.7L V8 Ram 1500 was purchased at a great price because of that little-desired engine I’m sure..(and the fact it was a 2012 model still on the dealer lot in Jan ‘13…. otherwise it was pretty loaded with options for a Tradesmen…and I had not anticipated any problem with the 4.7… it did well for over 200K. It had been one of a dozen special-ordered and special-equipped for a contractor who only took delivery of ten of them. It had the Tradesman cloth seats …but it had so many “extras” …it was really a special model….and I got it for $30K out the door. (CrewCab, Ramboxes, skid plates, 4WD, Locker rear axle, upgraded towing and equip’t packages). I didn’t do any real “towing” back then…only needed to replace my 3.7L V-6 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been rear-ended. I did tow a family bow-rider boat up wet boat ramps for short trips, so needed 4WD…but otherwise a small engine was not a problem for me.
Then I retired, bought an Airstream, a much larger boat, and a 10K Dump Trailer…. NOW that little 4.7 really had it’s workload cut out. Still…. I figured that since it was paid for and I didn’t tow long distances anything other than the 22’ Airstream….. I could let it take it’s time and live with it. It was my “retirement vehicle”.

But the wreck took care of that… and I have to admit… this Cummins-powered 2500 is a Completely Different Animal! Love it!

Hope to learn from you guys. Thx for the kind words.[/USER]
