Hi folks. My Bro-In-Law decided to test his 09 2500 4x4 QC against a big Buck in Colorado. Guess who lost? :{ Yup he center punched it to the tune of about $7k damage. Took out all the components from the grill to the timing cover. No I haven't seen it personally, but here's the question: What are the chances that debris from the smashed Inner Cooler or associated parts could, under boost/vacuum, enter the Intake Manifold or worse? He was doing about 60MPH when he hit the beast. My concern is that a perfectly good 6. 7 Cummins could be seriously screwed up if someone fires it up before checking for debris. Your thoughts?

Me thinks he's gonna install a big ol' "Beast Guard" in the very near future.

Since he was probably braking and not heavily accelerating there wasn't too much airflow. If the intercooler was punctured then the boost was lost as well.

I would recommend pulling the intake horn and check for debris on top of the grid heater, if there is none there it should be fine.

Thanks AH641D. Unfortunately he never even had time to brake. Critter just popped out of no where in the dark. I don't know if he was cruising or pulling a hill. From what I know, the intercooler was demolished.

Good advice on checking the grid heater, I'll pass it along.

A lot of people who loose that battle invest in one of these.

Don't have any pictures, but just found out the Harmonic Balancer needs to be replaced. What are the chances that the impact may have tweaked the crankshaft end? Anybody ever had that issue?

Ya,,, He shoud have the engine torn down to check the crank thrust bearings. If the harmonic balancer is damaged, he probably needs a crank. Sucks.
I had a friend that smacked a telephone pole and Ved the front of his 04 dodge. He sold the totaled truck and the guy who bought it ended up having to rebuild the engine. The crank and cam shaft were damaged from the impact.

I'd love to get a beefier bumper, I just don't want to subject the front axle to the weight. I am already at 95% of the FAWR most the time.

I would run a big bumper if i ;lived in critter country ... . they should go through his motor, just to be safe... before starting it up and finding out it has internal damage too... .

I have had Ranch Hands front bumper replacements on the last 3 trucks. They do tend to eat front bearings somewhere around 150000 miles. Small price to pay for the protection it provides to my precious cargo in the cab.

I love my Ranch hand push bar. Tested and tough. Used many times and had the whole thing re-powder coated to cover up the bare metal from impacts with other steel objects. One of them was a rusted out ford truck.
