Causes of transmission failure?

Last night I installed the Adjustable Ramifier, I really like the in cab adjustability over my EZ. The only concern I have is that the EGT's are taking off...

With the EZ I could just kiss 1300 on a 0-108mph blast, I duplicated the run with the ramifier turned all the way up this morning I hit 1400 very quickly (probably about 80-90mph) and backed out before it went any higher...

Are others seeing these temps with thier Ramifiers? The truck is entirely stock except for a box and EGT gauge... Stock A/F and exhaust... the air filter only has about 250 miles on it.

I planned on dyno'ing this on saturday but I am not sure the temps will allow a full run...

I have an extra "edge boost elbow" for the truck, I was thinking of installing that, but I don't know if this is going to help enough...

I know that the box is making more power (ie. fuel+power= more heat) but I am not sure I could even run up around the 70hp mark without excessive heat...

Not bashing the box by any means, there is definatley more power there but if I can't get the EGT's down a little then it won't be usable power for very long...

I will give them a call today and see what they say, but I wanted to see if others have gotten the same results.

Is the new Quadzilla box also causing these temps??? (please be honest)

Truck specs: 04 305/555 48re, EGT probe (pre turbo) in #3 area of manifold.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Dave, we put one on a 04. 5, it has an afe drop in filter and torque tube, no cat, freel flow muffler, it will just kiss 1400 at 100 mph at 40 lb boost, the egt actually starts to drop a little above 100 mph, maybe cause the volume of air is starting to cool it off a little. I would think a dyno run would be over so quick that the egt wouldn't be a concern.

I have a Ramifier and a TST, usually stacked. I also Beta tested the Quad box. Yes the Quad box does run cooler than the Ramifier but not much. I prefer the adjustable potentiometer switch of the Ramifier to the 3 position switch of Quad's box. Now that it's all done, I'm sending back Quad's box and keeping the Ramifier. It stacks really nicely on the TST.

A dyno run on a Dynojet only lasts a few seconds, you should be fine on temps. If you have questions reguarding the boost elbow find Tom (Tomeygun) at that St. Louis dyno day and ask him questions. He's played with boost elbows in these early third gens as much as anybody I know.

Thanks guys, I did forget that I put on a torque tube on mine, but it still runs to a stock A/F...

Yes I met Tom last time at the dyno day...

I didn't like the "low end" loss with the boost elbow and the EZ, but since the Ramifier has more low end, then maybe the boost elbow won't hurt it as much. The last time I dyno'd we ran the truck up to 70mph & OD (to keep it from down shifting) then hit it to 108, but I am a little concerned since trying to do a 70-108 shot on the road this morning shot me to 1400 before I finished...

Another concern might be if the boost elbow will throw a "overboost" code if I am running around on the stock setting (but the boost elbow will still be holding higher pressures)... . hmmmm... .

OK maybe it's time to "T" the waste gate line and run a bleeder valve inside the truck that it can work in conjunction with the Ramifier knob (more fuel/more boost) and see what I can come up with...

Crap time for a boost gage, but I have no where I want to put it...

Last dyno was 326hp/618tq with the EZ on level 4, so this saturday I hope to see a couple more numbers better, but I really got the box for it's adjustability not the extra HP...

Thanks again,

Dave

You might be correct, but I really would like to keep the temps in the 1300 and below range. I want a box I can tow with also, not just for racing etc. I don't need 100+ HP to tow with, but the EZ box would give me 70 and keep EGT's right at 1300 on a hard WOT pull. I know alot of guys run higher numbers, but I figured comming off the front three cylinders that a temp 1350 is as high as I would like to go since the backs are probably hotter than that.

The Ramifier acts as a boost foooler, you shouldn't get an overboost code if it's working correctly.

I get the overboost code everyday. I also get a fuel code, but I need to put in a pusher pump to solve that one. Just running out of fuel. I love the ramifier. When I don't need it on just dial it down.

Is that because you have a boost elbow on??? Now I'm confused. .

the reason I asked about the "over boost code" is since the ramifier can go all the way down to stock then it wouldn't be fooling anything so the computer would be reading actual boost / fuel numbers instead of "box fooled" numbers...

I just took the truck for a spin at lunch today 0-100 and it looked like it kissed 1450 degrees... . that just too much for my liking... I need to get the EGT's down and don't want to dump money in a intake (at this time) and don't want the added sound of the "muffler less" exhaust... so I have a delima...

Yes I have the boost elbow on. I have 4" stright exhaust and and afe intake with torque tube. Egts are good. even towing 10000lbs and 38lbs of boost I hardly hit 1300degrees.

Sorry I am a little slow:

Just so I am clear, with the "boost elbow" installed and the Ramifier on "stock" (or on any setting), you can throw an "over boost code"?? If so, then I will be scratching that plan for tonight.

Thanks again,

Dave

No on stock its fine. But with the elbow i get the code. I ran with out it and no codes at all. It's just when you hold 40lbs to long

I had the ramifier & afe stage 2 air box installed about 3 weeks ago. My post turbo temps are 860 degrees with the pedal on the floor up to 100 mph. very happy with the ramifier and afe air box. coobie

had a question aboud ramifier when turned all the way up sounds like engine rattles under decelration is this normal if you turn down a little does not do it

I've notice increase engine "rattle" with both of the high pressure boxes that I've tried. I figured it was the nature of increased pressure

-Scott

I think it's probably more of a timing thing cause when I was running the TST alone I noticed a little more fuel knock, ping, nail or whatever ya wanna call it. I'm pretty sure it's just a normal occurence with more pressure or more timing.
