What a Great Time We Had in Tulsa

Let's keep this one out there for visibility's sake. So far I've received about 20 replies from both TDR members and non-members. It looks like this is really going to work! By mid-January I should be able to have a DEFINITE ~lunchtime meeting place set up. Once I do, I will be e-mailing everyone who's responded with the details and directions (if not a map).

I've had the pleasure of speaking with a couple of the respondents on the phone - if these conversations are any hint of what a full-blown meeting will be like, we're gonna' have a ball!

P. S. I'm sure you've noticed - I posted this in BOTH Local and Regional... categories. 'Sorry Rob.

OK, everybody, things are coming together very well indeed for this gathering of the finest group of DieselHeads in the region!

Larry Melton (service manager and co-owner of Melton Sales, where I got MY Ram) has graciously commited to some sort of official participation in our meeting. Although I told him we have no pre-conceived ideas of what Melton's participation might be (a Five Star Dealer's view of warranties? Melton's personal experience with Diesel Ram service histories?), he indicated that he would definitely come up with SOMETHING, perhaps even some kind of door prize - we'll know next week.

I also spoke with Willy, the owner of the Route 66 Diner (now called The Diner after the old one downtown burned down a couple years ago). This is the great little diner I'd originally written about when the subject of this gathering first started hitting the board. I asked him about accomodating our group at one time on that Saturday (January 29th - don't forget!). He said he'd even set aside a separate area for us all to be together. Next door is a huge abandoned Venture store parking lot where we can all congregate around one helluva display of the finest vehicles to ever hit the road!

I can tell the word is getting out by the number and kind of responses I've been getting. I appreciate the interest and enthusiasm and am really, really looking forward to meeting with you all.

I'll be e-mailing out detailed directions or a map soon. If you're just now becoming aware of this gathering and want to take part, write, call or e-mail me. I'll be glad get you on the list.

We’re only 15 days out from our meeting here in Tulsa, and things just keep looking better and better.

I purchased a nifty little $50+ item for my Ram recently. When I emailed the creator of this item about its being something our meeting attendees would think is pretty cool, he offered to send me one free for our meeting! It’s now the top door prize (so far – others might be coming…?).

I had a great meeting this morning with Dennis Ferguson, the manager of the local Southern Plains Cummins. It’s pretty certain that Cummins will make an official presence at our meeting, but the details have not been finalized. Dennis gave me a complete, detailed tour of the facility (parts shop, maintenance bays and their MONSTER dyno, etc. ), and shared a few anecdotes of his experience with the Ram Cummins. He showed me some products that he has seen benefit these machines greatly – interesting. Then he offered to allow us to have any subsequent meetings right there at Southern Plains. They have a large meeting room as part of their new facility. (The old one rather disappeared a few years back in a terribly destructive killer tornado. ) Something for us to consider should we ever want to get together again…

And I’m heading out to Melton Sales right after I post this. Larry Melton (service manager and co-owner of the dealership where I bought my Ram) has a box of goodies he’s prepared for our meeting ready for me to pick up. Who knows what we might find there?

With some of the finest, inexpensive, true diner-type food available anywhere in Tulsa at ANY price, we will be getting our meeting of to a great start.

I’m looking forward to meeting with you all. We’re gonna have a great time! BTW, if any of you have any ideas about anything special you’d like to do or see, just let me know and I’ll see what I can come up with.

After such a mild winter so far, it will probably be just my luck that we'll have the worst snowstorm in the history of the world on the 28'th. Ha, ha!! Only kidding. Looking forward to seeing everyone there. Again, good work Bruce.

Bruce,
Glad you talk to Dennis at Southern Plains. Dennis is a very nice person and willing to answer every question that you might have. About two months ago I talked to him to see if they might be interested on setting up a little meeting but time was short due to the fact I arrived at the shop with three minutes left before closing time and that is as far as it went. Anyway I am glad that you are working with them and getting them involved for I truly believe it will be beneficial to all. Once again thanks for all the time and effort that you have put forth to this get together. #ad
