For a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie Diesel with a manual transmission:

The manual lists an option for the dealership to enable manual idle control with the cruise control switches, but only for automatic transmissions.

Do anyone know of a workaround for those of us with manual transmissions? It sure help to warm things up quicker for the baby in colder weather (yes, I am aware of the laws concerning this).

Thanks,

Tex

I was wondering the same thing. I miss the high idle setup i rigged on my 95. I notice mine will idle up to about 1000 rpm after idling for a little while in the morning, but a few hundred more would be nice.

You can engage the high idle on the manual trucks. Officially it requires a clutch switch kit from Dodge to be installed and then the PTO function to be enabled with the Starscan. People have enabled the high idle without installing the clutch safety switch. I believe all it takes is to ground one of the pins (B22??) on the ECM and it should work. There are a few threads that discuss this; a quick search should turn up loads of info.

If the 2010s are like the earlier 6. 7s, theres a green wire up under the dash behind the pedals with black tape on the end; simply extend the wire to a good ground, have the dealer enable the feature, and it should work.

All 2010 autos come standard from the factory with the feature enabled. This isnt the same thing as the automatic increase to 1000rpm to warm the engine. Manual adjustment is from about 1000 up to 1500rpm... possibly the best feature on these trucks

From a City Slicker here, what is the benefit of this? Does it simply get warmer faster? How do you turn it on and off? I'm about to order mine and I'm wondering if this would be something I'd want them to do and how I'd use it.

Benefit includes faster warm-ups in cold weather and preventing cylinder temps from getting too low when idling in cold weather. Cold weather idling has the potential to allow cylinder washdown from unburnt fuel due to low cylinder temps.

The feature is turned on by enabling the cruise control and then tapping the "set" to ramp up to 1100 RPM; RPM can be adjusted up or down by using the "accel" and "decel" controls for the cruise control. In theory the feature should disengage if you step on the brake or the clutch (if you have a clutch switch).
