I ran my 2000 Cummins out of fuel. I put 4 gallons of fuel in and I couldn't get it restarted. I tried the bleeding procedure that is used when the fuel filter is changed several times but I couldn't get it started. I ended up having it towed to a shop. They got it going by doing the same thing I was doing. The truck is running fine now but the shop said there still might be a chance that the high pressure fuel pump could have been damaged. My question is, what are the symptoms of the high pressure fuel pump when it starts to go bad.

I ran mine out last winter, I bled the system and got her going. My pump is fine. If you don't get any codes or running problems don't worry about it.

If you have a F/P gauge, you will be able to monitor your pressures and you can go from there, update your signature so that we can view what you have going on...

Thanks for the reply's. I do have a fuel pressure gauge, I still have the same pressure that I had before I ran it out of fuel, 14 - 16 psi. I sure hope

it stays that way.
