A few months ago I switched the front oem shocks to Ranco RS 5000's. The did improve the ride quality (less front end bounce)but at the same time I developed a knock on the driver side floor board. I could only feel this knock at moderate speeds over moderate bumps. I was never able to hear it only feel. I checked the install of the shocks and found nothing wrong, and neither did any of the other people I had check it. So I reinstalled the oem's and knock goes away. Is it the fact they were 5000's? Has anybody had the same problem with 5000's or 9000's?

i had the same problem. The OEM shocks were wider at the sleeve. The bolt also fits loose in the sleeve. When you tighten up the mounting bolt, the flanges on the axle squeeze the shock. If the shock is narrower you have to squeeze more. The noise is the shock bouncing up and down on the mounting bolt. I hit my 9000's with a solid burst from my impact gun and problem solved.

Hope this helps RRR

Had the exact same thing on my 95' just the past two weeks. Been driving me crazy. When I hit both lower retaining bolts with the torque wrench, the knocking stopped.

I guess I will go get a set of 9000's and this time when I put them on I will give them a shot with my impact gun.

Thanks for the info.
