Rancho Shock Settings

Any favorite all around settings for the Rancho adjustables?



I've used 8 on the rear, a bit rough empty or loaded. Using 6 now. Front is at 4 and seems good. Had them on 7, much stiffer than stock. I've been towing stuff about twice per month or 300 miles. 5 to 7K most of the time. I haven't pulled my tractor yet, loaded its around 9K. With the factory shocks, my rear tires were cupping and the trucked bucked while pulling my equipment trailer empty (24' [30' LOA] flat deck tag, plate states 4,300 empty). The Rancho shocks have reduced the bucking some with the rear at 6.



Would it hurt any thing to run the shocks at 5 or so loaded? Any one running them at setting 1? I'm surprised how stiff these things are.

I have always run mine with the fronts stiffer than the rear on my previous trucks. Usually the fronts on 3-4 and the rears on 1 when empty. Crank em up when loaded.

8 in the rear 6 up front.



ive tried all kind of settings and the best ive found to stop porpousing with my lance is the 8/6. short bed with a lance 821, no camper struts to the hood sheet metal.



run 3 up front/1 in the rear unloaded. speed bumps are still harsh.

5 or 6 up front and 1 rear, unloaded; 9 rear with the camper on. FWIW, I tested the factory shocks with 10,000 miles on them and they appear to be the equivalent to the 9000's on level 6. Much more dampening than the stockers on my '01. 5 although it had maybe 20,000 mi when I took them off.

I pull a equipment trailer most of the time. It seems to me that the 9 setting is too much even loaded with a couple thousand on the trailer. I'm going to try 5 and 6 tomorrow with a lite load of pipe. I can tell these shocks are going to work well with heavy loads. I guess it won't hurt to run at low settings, the truck is very stable now.



I'm glad I need to turn them down. My factory shocks were soft compared to the Ranchos.

are you running the 9000x's? what part numbers, I have a 04 3500 SRW that I want to get better shock on. thanks

I just put a set of the Ranchos 9000's on my truck this weekend.

I have been running around with the fronts on 6 and the rears on 4, it seems pretty good. I may try running with the fronts on 5 maybe. Also when you guys mounted you rear shocks did you mount them with the adjusting knob toward the axle? I know it makes it harder to adjust them but like Steve St. Laurent said in his article he wrote it dose give them a little more protection doing it that way.

The numbers that I used are: 99221 and 99269. I bought mine from the Sam's Offroad Equipment site.





I put the shock's knob pointing away from the axle, its already a pain to switch settings. I'm thinking about the in cab controller, since I change loads so much.
