Random 3rd Gen Observations

Disclaimer... . I do not recomend that anybody do this to their truck or or drive beyond the legal limits on U. S. Highways... .

I noticed the other day that to maintain 95-100mph on interstate it averaged 25 lbs of boost and actually got better fuel economy when calculated by pencil and paper vs. the overhead "tard"!.

I also realized that the dang cruise control will NOT engage at that speed... I think it finally engaged at 85-87 mph or so. .

My truck actually handled and drove better at those speeds, maybe due to the truck "skipping" from bump to bump???. . Or possibly due to the idiot behind the wheel driving so fast it was just floating ontop of the road??.

Drove the truck the next morning and it REALLY ran a lot better.

Wouldn't have driven that fast, but my wife was tired and really wanted to get home. I told her we would most likely get stopped atleast once at those speeds... her only response was," Well, its been years since you took defensive driving, so you have a free pass!" Makes me wonder how she drives when Im not with her???.

But that comment explains why her Jeep G/C needs new back tires!

I am glad you got home, not the smartest thing to do. Have a blow out at those speeds and you may never make it home. I just can't understand why the cruise won't work at those speeds.

The trucks do have the power to do that. A few years ago I left Lubbock with a group of guys I know for Ennis for a racing weekend as spectators. They were all driving modified classic cars and street rods. I was in my old '01 Ram pulling a 30' Airstream. After a few miles of following them at the tail of a long train, them with no cruise control and speeds varying from 50 to 75 or 80, I decided to pass them and travel alone. One of the guys put his foot in his '57 Chevy as I tried to pass him.

Having never grown up, I guess, I put my foot in the old Ram with MH275hp injectors and kept rolling. He quit at around 85 but my adrenalin was pumping and I stayed in the fuel. At 98 mph I looked into the distance and could see a car coming our way, perhaps two miles ahead. I momentarily considered the possibility it was a TX DPS car and the jail sentence I might receive for my "judgement" and backed out of it. The car was not a trooper and I have always regretted not seeing if the old Ram could reach 100 mph with the Airstream behind it.

NO, I do not recommend such foolish antics. I had new Michelins on the truck and new BFGs on the trailer but if a tire had failed at that speed I would have forfeited my Navy pension that day.

As long as no one else gets hurt, I can think of worse places to die than crashing our "fun" trucks... like on the couch... no thanks!
