On the weekend while towing a 10,000 lb trailer, my father who was traveling behind noticed alot of random puffs of black smoke coming out the stacks. He said they were about 5-10 seconds apart, mostly while going up hills. What causes this and is this something to be concerned about?

Thanks!

Robert

robert.

this reminds me, ive had some what of the same issue with my 93'. i havent pulled anything with it yet, but i have notice when pulling up this one mountain, that if i watch my pipe i do occasionally get a short burst of black smoke. its really random. it only seams to do it under a load with steady throttle pressure, not accelerating, just maintaining it.

anyone have any clues? could it be that our injectors are getting a little worn out and there showing it when we lug the motor.

robert - i dont no what rpm you were running when you noticed it, but i felt like i was probly chugging mine a little when it would puff.

It's more than likely just the governor kicking in and out trying to maintain a steady speed. Not anything to worry about.
