Sweet purchase. I am a certifiable Jeep freak. As far as your new aquisistion: the "Ranker" suspension must be a local spring shop that made the springs. I have never heard of "Ranker" company before. It doesn't reference a type of custom suspension either, like 3 link, 4 link, 1/4 elliptical or 3/4 elliptical. I cannot see the suspension well but it looks like it is all original style except for the front shackles have been "reversed. ' Stock the shackle is under the front bumper. A reversal moves it to the rear of the spring. this lets the suspension travel backwards as it hits a bump and gives a little better approach angle to obstacles.
Get under it and look to make sure the suspension doesn't have any cracked spring leaves and that all the bolts and welds for hte suspension mounting points are tight and solid. V8 jeeps break stuff if they aren't done well. Also look very carefully at the motor mounts and transmission mounts. Make sure they are of suitable thickness material and solidly welded or bolted in. The divorced t-case is kind of wierd because there is so little wheelbase (wb in jeep circles) and the driveline angles get steep quickly with lift kits etc... I am curious as to the tcase setup and how its shifted. Make sure it gets into all the ranges.
Underhood the motor looks about right. Again no really good views of it. I would figure out what those extra coolers (one on each inner fender) are for. I imagine one is transmission cooling and one is either and engine oil or a power steering cooler. Figure it out though and make sure the lines are in good shape and that the correct fittings have been used. Also, the main engine radiator and fan setup, there is no shroud so it will run hot in summer or at slow speeds. The easiest thing to do is find a shroud for the fan. the BEST thing to do is ditch the water pump driven unit and get an electric. I have exclusively run electric fans with my Jeep V8s over the years and have never had a problem. I run a big flexlite Blackmagic job and love it. It can be setup to turn itself on at a certain temp and can be setup for a manual switch to override it. I have just am manual switch so that I can turn it off for water crossings. Even in 100degree Virginia summer heat stuck in stopped traffic I have not overheated my rig with that fan. It draws some juice but I run dual batteries and a 120 amp alternator so I can keep up with it. A lot of people run the electric fans from ford tauruses. They flow a lot of air and don't draw too much juice. And they are cheap from a junkyard.
Welcome to the land of the short WB rigs! Check out
www.bluetorchfab.com I am on their forum all the time (sn: 1BADYJ) and it a really helpful bunch and the company makes kick azz products.
Also, the fender flares on your new prize are off a TJ series jeep(the new one with the round headlights). Yours is a YJ (same as mine). I also run the TJ flares on the rear of mine for more wheelwell opening. To make them fit you have to trim sheetmetal. So get under and look at the wheel well opening and make sure there are no sharp edges of sheetmetal exposed that will cut the tire if it travels up into the wheel well. That could flatten your tire and make for a long walk home.
Also figure out exactly which axles you have, The typical chevy had 10 bolt axles. That is from the 10 bolts that hold the ring gear to the carrier inside the pumpkins. And those have a smoothly rounded diffrential cover. Chevy did use a dana 44 front sometimes. the way to tell is that it is stamped dana but the differential cover has more sharply angled sections of it as well as it has a blow out for the ring gear to travel in. Compare it to the rear axle cover. If they are the same then you most likely have 10 bolts axles front and rear.
There was also a 12 bolt chevy rear. I don't know anything about it except that it is much rarer than any of the others and harder to find parts for.
http://www.pirate4x4.com/ is a huge site with a lot of folks on it. It can be a difficult place for a new jeeper. But there is a lot of invaluable tech info there in the articles section and the forums have a lot of action on them. I am there occasionally as WYTZMBY. If you have a question feel free to email me or pm me here though. Good Luck!
