Howdie folks, this is Ray from Alaska, have a question for you folks, I've been searching for the answer since early this summer. I'll give you a run down that brings me to my question, it's a '99 24v Cummins with a NV4500 standard, has the FASS, Edge EZ ( the lower one), 3 piece ATS manifold, Banks brake, 4" stright pipe, and an AFE air intake, with this set up I was getting 27 to maybe 29 psi boost.
Then I installed the injectors earlier this summer, and immediatly was getting over 30 psi right now, but at around 32 psi I noticed this rapid sensation surge thing going on, I thought it maybe the clutch doing a slip /grab thing but a friend of mine said no way, he felt if the clutch broke free it would just fry, he maybe right. I then bolted the waste gate shut with a piece of 5/16 allthread and eliminated it ( thought being the gate was flapping in the high boost pressure), I then sent a sample of engine oil to Blackstone labs and it came back negative, no oil in diesel ( thought being an injector maybe malfunctioning). Then I found in the shop manuel that the MAP sensor will derate fuel if the boost psi goes too high ( I have a feeling it's around 32 psi) in an "engine protection " mode, and I've also found out that there is no aftermarket MAP sensor out there ( that I know about), at this point I think it's an electronic cut out, and if I'm right I don't know a way around it yet.
How are you guys at TDR that I have read about getting these impressive boost readings (40 to even 60 psi I have read), not that I'm looking for more boost, I just want to know what this rapid surge is, and if and how can it be stopped, thanks for your time, be kind to me this is my first thread, Ray
