I have recently(this summer) had a Rasp installed. Now I notice that I,m getting a small leak out of the pumps shaft to the pulley. I noticed it on the garage floor first. Should I go directly to Rasp with this or the dealer that sold the Rasp? How long should the warranty be on this and what will a new pump cost to replace if they do not cover it under warranty? Anybody already been here with this problem?

It should have a five year warranty on it and I'd probably start with who you bought it from first. Are you sure it's not one or maybe even both of the two fittings on the inlet or outlet? If you are using the aeroquip type fittings and you don't snug them just right they'll leak. I actually have one that I need to take another look at myself, one of my T's behind the filter is leaking a little. Nice looking fittings but I've had to go back on more than one occasion to retorqe connections.

Yes I have dealt with Bill alot and I,m not worried about that so much as I am a bad fitting. Its just seeping so I will keep my eye on it for now. Thanks for you replys.

Having talked with Bill about this already he said that it is caused by two things.

First the belt is too tight. I didnt think mine was too tight at all but after talking with him it may have been. It now is very loose.

Second that a piece of dirt has worked its way into the front seal of the shaft. He said they are working on a dust boot/cover for them to keep this from happening. He told me to take it apart: remove front pulley, remove 4/screws to take the pump halves apart and remove the shaft and clean it and the rubber type seal very good. Lube the shaft and seal with gear lube when reinstalling. (if I recall it will only go back together one way).

When I did mine I just clamped the fuel lines closed above the pump, removed the lines from the pump, removed the pump and worked with it on the bench. Took about 20-30 minutes total time.

So did this stop your drip? How bad was your drip anyway? I,d say mine is about a teaspoon or a little less every half hour at idle. My belt is pretty loose ,maybe 3/4 inch deflection ? between the pulleys. Its a cog belt so it did not have to be tight. I must have got dirt in mine . I wonder if and when the boots will be available? I don,t know if I can get the hoses clamped down enough to keep them from leaking to do a clean up? I think they will crack and break also. Is there another way as in just letting the two hoses drain into a pan and then just start the reprime process all over? Thanks for your help.

TT:

Mine has an intermittant leak. When I first noticed it I was out of town. It was dripping one drip every 30 seconds, truck was not even running, appeared to be from the front shaft/seal I checked after each stop. It stopped after my second stop. Then a few days later it started again but only seemed to leak while it was running. That is when I called Bill. I did his procedure and it stopped leaking. However it started again and is still intermittant. Sometimes more, sometimes less, sometimes not at all. I called Bill again to ask for help and he was out of the office but Crystal said they would just send out a new one. So I am waiting on it it to arrive.

I told Bill I had about 3/4 deflection and he said that was too tight. He said he thought his had about 1 1/4 deflection and was almost sloppy. So that is how I set mine when I reinstalled after cleaning it. It is pretty loose but as you stated it is a cog type and it doesnt slip. I am sure you could just let the hoses drain into a pan. I wrapped both hoses with a few turns of electrical tape and used some vise grips to clamp(had them set to be just tight enough and a light squeeze shut them not gorilla type strength to squeeze them) them shut which worked for me.

He mentioned the boots but did not give me further indication of when they might be available.
