In a medium duty truck the ISB 24 valve was rated at 300,000 mi life expectancy. Considering that most medium duty trucks haul heavier loads more frequently and the engine turns more rpm's per mile because of gearing the above rating is meaningless. There are several examples of the B5. 9 Cummins lasting for 4, 5, 6, hundred thousand miles. In the TDR rag there have been two recent stories on million mile trucks, one of which had the original engine. Serviced properly and not abused I would expect mine to last 6 to 7 hundred thousand miles.
Do not know about the cats or oil cooled pistons.
