Seems the engine compartment of my truck has become a haven for rodents. The have chewed the hood and firewall liner and insulation off numerous wires. It seems no matter where I park I cant get rid of them. Do any of you have ideas (short of burning the whole truck) to get rid of these things? So far I was able to repair the wiring damage done but I dread the day I start getting wierd electrical problems and have to spend big bucks to get it fixed. Any ideas are appreciated.

Be CAREFUL!!! A neighbor of mine had some rodents take up home in the engine compartment of a Audi A4. One day after they got home from work, they went in the house and minutes later their car was on FIRE!! It seems they chewed electrical and shorted something to cause it to burn up right in the front driveway and put smoke soot on the house!

I have heard conventional traps work well when trying to get rid of them. Just bait them and wait.

I had two "BIG RATS" got into my bass boat a couple of years ago, and done several dollars worth of damage. I used the big rat traps to catch them, the kind that you bait and rodents trips the lever and "snap" their history. I used peanut butter for the bait on the trip lever, it seems to stay on longer than cheese or what ever. I also tied the traps down so in case it didn't get them good right off they could not carry the traps off. These suckers were monsters over 18" long including the tail length and a set of front choppers over a inch. They chewed all my wiring, transducer cable, trim on seats and a hole the size of a basketball in rear compartment sub-flooring where gas tanks and batteries are stored.

I hate meece's to pieces!

well then i guess that problem was taken care of :-laf

As was stated but thought I would add my 2 cents. Moth balls are a great way to keep varmits out of the truck, the camper or the boat. It really works and wont harm children or pets Oo.

I use Bounce dryer sheets for my boat when I put it up for the season. This seems to work for everyone we know that uses them. No rodent issues thus far.

Ecolab does a great job too. We have numerous trucks, tractors, combines, pickups, etc sitting around for extended periods of time and had problems with mice. Called Ecolab and the problem is completely solved. We now have Ecolab service all buildings on all our farmyards.

Hey---

If there is anything i hate, its rats. . Wild rats... grrr...

They got into our Christmas box and ate some of the stuff I made when I was a little tike. After that day all rats have a price on their head. :) Best way to get rats, don't use poison, they will eat it and die and prob go into the wall and start stinking. Glue traps work good with peanut butter. Even try regular traps. Getting a couple of good small kittens and letting them be on their own will get rid of a lot of rodents. Cats are very good hunters... I always enjoy live traps. . 22 cal exucutions can be fun for a rat that has eaten your expensive truck's wires... Or getting one in the live trap and throwing it in front of the cats can teach them to be good little hunters. . Just some ideas... . good luck, those rats can be verrrry tricky

My mouse story

We HAD a mouse problem last spring. I put out glue traps, poison, moth balls, I even got TWO cats. A couple of days later I'm at work and the lovely wife calls screaming. She caught a baby SNAKE in the glue trap. Seems the snake doctor thinks its a baby Texas Rat Snake (Chicken Snake), and it's very efficient for rodent removal. (People too!)

Hey Tony,

Those are big rats... they grow 'em big in Collin county! :-laf Bet they'd stand up and try to fight a dog!

Bill

I got to buy myself a digital camera for such occassions I guess Bill  . Wish I had pics of those two I caught. The pic Cyborg displayed is a big rat, but the two I caught would put that one to shame. I was amazed how big they were. Kinda like that big ole bass that got away,no way to document. :-laf
