I just took off my Edge Juice to see if it made any difference. There is less "rattle/knock" but it is still there. Just not as pronounced. Any other ideas?

hi guys. i have been having the same problem. but the only time it happens is with my tst on, at around 2400 rpm's i hear a really loud rattle in the engine. Im just hoping its nothing serious to worry about. Its much louder when the truck is cold, so i dont turn on my box till im at about 200 degrees, then its much more quiet, but its still there. If u find out anything else please let me know.

200 Deg. are you talking about engine temp???

what year truck do you have??? that seems a little high (IMO)

My 06 runs between 200* - 210* normally. Yes, this is hotter than a 2nd Gen @ 190*

I've noticed the timing rattle also, it has to be the fuel... ... ... ... ...

Right?

200 to 210 seems high, my 06 stays about 190. I knowticed a little rattle the other night while towing, it wasn't totaly up to temp and it was more of a part throttle timing rattle like a gasser will get.

Yes thats it exactly. But why all of a sudden, and on all the Dodge diesel sites?

yes thats engine temp. its an 03 h. o. it seems to always run around 200 normal operation. a little higher towing, its been that way for about 2 years, i always thought that was abnormal but the truck runs fine. And the fuel i use is 500 ppm. but the rattle only happens with my tst on, actually its just more pronounced with the box on, any ideas? Should i be worried about a future problem?

I have a 2006 2500 auto 4+4 short bed with 4:10 gears. When I bught the truck I emediatly noticed on hard excell from aprox 35 mph, the engine rattled a lot. I also noticed that on hard throttal standing stops the same thing would happen. I can hear it ecoing off of passing objects. It sonds like a bad vailve tap. I took the truck in to doge and thay say all is ok . The truck runns fine, just rattles on excell. I thought it was just me becaus i had a 2001 prior to the new one and never herd it before from that one. I hope it is normal ? Also it goes away with light throtal.

thanks john

rattle

I have the same problem. Someone told me if you have do an injecter swop sometimes if you don't get the stem in the head matched just wright in the injecter you can get that rattling noise. I have a CP3 mod and it very well could be the FCA .

As most of us are aware from getting a "bad" tank of fuel, cetane rating has a lot to do with combustion rattle, but it's more of a continuous noise rather than one that comes and goes.

The worst I've ever seen of this was towing our 5th wheel from Nashville back to Houston. I fueled up in Nashville and the combustion rattle was so loud that my wife and I couldn't carry on a conversation all the way to West Memphis, Arkansas (not that that's necessarily all bad!! ). After refueling at the Flying J in West Memphis, the engine racket quieted down to normal levels (for a 2nd gen 24V) within 10 miles.

I just back off the throttle until mine warms up anyways, then its not so bad at operating temp. I use the new UCTA in the TST to back off to only 9 degs. advance, this helps ALOT!, not to mention the TT05 program seems to be better suited to my particular truck, even on 12 deg. advance it doesen't rattle like it does on the standard program. My issue is sthe injection event on my '03 has gotten louder in time, sounds like a rocker out of adjustment, I just ran mine overhead about 6 months ago, but I'm going to recheck, sound like one may have backed off, but I've also been told that the pilot injection will get louder as these things get some miles on them, dunno, came from a good source who told me this, anyone else heard of this?

To those who have heard this sound, What are you using for an additive and fuel? ULSD? I've just recently started using ULSD 15ppm before that I used ulsd 500ppm and I've always used diesel kleen. I also just tried a bottle of the Cummins valvoline cleaner. Just trying to determine a pattern here...

My 03 was rattling and was up for an oil and fuel filiter change (10K). It went away after changing the filter so I suspected it was fuel related... . maybe some residual water in there? It worked for me when I thought I had an injector going south.

Have exactly the same thing. Exchanged the FCA and that seems to help a little bit +more more stable idle (very easy install, with the right tools (long torx driver)). Using stanadyne as additive (also seems to help a bit) and I also found some relief from clearing out the water from my fuel filer.

All in all went from 100% to 40%, but the rattling is still there.

BTW interestingly my EGTs went up quite a bit when I swapped in my new FCA, according the numbers here I am now quite normal.
