Hello;

Anyone have the RB1 Nav/stereo system in your truck? Any comments? Does the nav system work well? I was told they use Alpine software so it should be a good system.

Thanks

I swapped out my factory RB4 for RB1 a couple weeks ago. I do like the RB1 better, being a tech kinda guy, I like to see the digital map move as I roll down the freeway. Just like everything else computer-based, it's only as good as the latest revision. I went camping up in Riverside County this weekend, and did end up going out of the "verified" mapping so didn't get "turn by turn direction". No big deal, still got me where I needed to go. Overall I'm impressed with the RB1, but for the same money you can get a comparable or better aftermarket system. BTW I also have Sirius hooked up, does read out song and artist... ;)

I'm thinking about doing the same and selling the old RB4 to my brother.

Would you do this again if you had the choice?

How difficult was it and what extra parts did you need other then what comes with the RB1?

Thanks! ;)

Just a somewhat related comment. I have an Alpine-manufactured OEM nav system in my 2003 Acura 3. 2TL-S. I thought it was pretty darned good. I just bought a Garmin StreetPilot 2620 for my wife's Durango and my truck - it does everything the Alpine system does and has a much better map database to boot. It could find and plot a route to addresses in the most obscure Texas towns you can imagine - the Alpine map database gets pretty weak once you move out of the major cities (to be fair, I still have the 2001 version map database - Acura wants like $160 for the 2004 DVD, and I haven't shelled out for it yet!)

I got the complete Garmin StreetPilot 2620 system off the Internet for slightly less than $1000, including overnight shipping.

If your looking for Garmin stuff, www.tvnav.com has treated me really well. Great people.

I've got the Garmin 276C. I can move it from bike to truck to boat and it works great everywhere. I still like the integrated look of the RB1 tho.
