I am thinking of adding this to my Ram. First question, this is a DVD based system, correct? So it has to have the DVD in the unit at all times, right? Then how do you play a CD?

Next - does it include POI on the maps? Is it touchscreen?

Last - from the on line picture it looks like you only get 6 FM presets, is that correct also?

The RB4 uses the disc to down load information. It then spits it out and can run a music CD. The disk has east/coast and west/coast streets and POI but the RB4 memory can't hold all CONUS info all together so you run either east coast info or west coast disk info. It isn't touch screen and does not give you the "map" picture other GPS units give but does give lat/long/elevation/compass heading and street name your traveling on . It shows arrows and voice prompts of direction when way points are reached. It's by no means the best out there. Use the search function and you can get a lot of info including the site with the user's manual. Mine locked up after 6 months and I'll get it fixed when I take my truck in for the warranty work. It's the only gripe on my truck. It worked fine up to that point and the jury's still out in my book on whether it's a good unit or not----------RJ

OK - think I figured a couple things out. It is the RB1 that has the map screen, but you cannot use the Nav and play a CD at the same time. The RB4 allows that, but has no map screen.

Wow - no wonder those things are going so cheap on eBay, there is really no point to it. A Nav unit with no map screen is pretty worthless, IMO.

The lack of maps isn't so much a problem as not having a good data base. Half the city I live in isn't even in the system. nor streets in most small towns I tried to use it. Total waste of money. My Garmin has 10 times the information and I can update it.

Hence my thread on the 2006 nav radios- I am installing a Pioneer unit(AVIC-Z1 that has a 30 gig hard drive,(for map data and updates AND mp3 files)full color touch screen map. It's also got a vehicular performance feature (1/4 mile, 0-60, lateral g etc) but I'm not sure that you can get that to work with CAN-BUS yet.

The AVIC-d1 and D2 are also good units without the HD and some other bells and whistles for alot less $$.

My thought with the RB4 was trying to get to the OEM look with intergrated nav unit and also UConnect. After haveing an 06 Commander for the weekend with both, I am sold on them. However the RB4 is less of a unit than my Magellan 750. I can live with it suction cupped to the windshield and just do the dealer added uConnect.

BTW - agree on the Infinity sound. I want to add the JL sub in a formed box under the back seat and focal speakers all around. Trying to decide how far to go. One place told me I need a JL clean sweep because of the factory amps with Infinity sound system, but I thought these were wired straight?
