2013 Cummins Plant Tour

I just called the company the bought out RBW and was told that this hitch was discontinued 4 or 5 years ago. I was hoping to buy this hitch as I found a good deal on one. I am now thinking of any other hitch that has this much capacity. What are you guys using for a 5er hitch?

I am using a Reese Elite 25K hitch. It is heavily built and has under the bed mounting so when hitch is out the floor is clean. If you go this route make sure they get the proper mounting frame as there is a light duty one and the correct one for the 25K hitch. This hitch is not cheap but I got what I paid for.

Well I don't have that hitch, but I've toured the plant in Chanute Kansas when I had my bed installed and from what I saw, you can bet the quality is there, and is worth it. But it uses a rail system above the bed.

I don't have the hitch either, however there is no "rail system above the bed". See website <http://www.turnoverball.com/>

Look again.

Mea culpa. Companion series has turnover ball & I was unaware of the "Patriot". Best I research more carefully before commenting :)

B&W Hitch

RVTRKN, How do you like your B&W? I take it is the Companion? How long have you had it? They seem to be well built and look better built than the Curt hitch.

I totally agree about being better built. Look at a Curt and B&W side by side the jaws arr THICK 1" on the B&W look like only 1/2" on the Curt.

I truly feel the B&W is under rated at 18K.

With the B&W no pull test is needed. With the pin box and the hitch plates touching, the jaws around the king pin, the handle closed and locked there is no way to drop the 5er.

Top quality US Made hitch!

I have the B&W Companion along with the turnover gooseneck ball, its great to be able to take the whole fifth wheel out of the bed.

It is a Heavy Duty setup and is under rated at 18K. The base is slightly different then the base for pickup beds, because of the B&W flat bed I have. It has very little free travel, if at all. I was considering an air ride pin box, but it seems like part of the truck. And my truck being a manual can really have a heavy jerking feel to it, as was with my 2500 and a RBW lil Rocker fifth wheel. So I chose not to go through the expense of an air ride pin box. You will not regret the extra cost, but there are cheaper hitches that will get the job done, after using mine, I wouldn't consider any other brand. On edit, its a 5 year old Companion hitch.

5 years old

I called the guy on this hitch and it is 5 years old. It has been sitting for the last 3 years. I emailed him and told him I will pass on it. The hitch only has a 5 year warranty. Maybe that is why he can't sell it.

Insofar as longevity of the B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch is concerned, I'm still using the Companion hitch that I purchased in late 2001 and installed in my 2002 dually. When I sold that truck, the buyer wanted the B&W Turnoverball gooseneck hitch, so I left in in the 2002, bought a new one for the 2011 and just transferred the Companion hitch.

Cosmetically, I need to pull it and paint some areas where the powdercoating has flaked off, but mechanically it has never had a problem and still works like new after 11+ years.
