Possible Load from Atlanta to the West??

What sort of Cummins is in this RV?

I'm in the market for an enclosed cargo trailer, hoping to buy new. As a trailer newbie, I'm having a hard time making heads or tails out of all the different brands.



So far, the only thing obvious to me is that I need a 7x14 or 7x16, dual axle, ramp rear door, and a useable payload of at least 4000-5000 lbs.



Are any brands noticeably better or worse then others? I see some have disk brakes - worth paying for? Any construction methods I should look for?



Any suggestions on dealers in the MD/VA/PA/DE area?

Love my Wells Cargo. Check Frame specs, wall framing, floor thickness, doors, hinges and fasteners. My 16x8 Express Wagon had a GVWR of 7700 lbs and a dry weight of 2350 lbs. They are available in 10,000 lbs GVWR packages in this size as well (EW1624). I looked at several brands before I bought. The Wells Cargo wasn't the cheapest, but most of the time you get what you pay for.

We did some research into various trailer for use as a mobile command center and support unit for our EMS system some time back. After taking a close look at a number of them we are going with Wells Cargo. We took a factory tour and liked what we saw. FWIW.

H&H

I have an H&H gooseneck flatbed, and the design and construction is head and shoulders above the local competition. It was $600 less than a Featherlite, has 19 lb. channel frame instead of 12 lb, dual jacks, side turn signals, etc. All features the other trailers had as options. If their cargo trailers are built as well, they are very well built trailers, and an excellent value!

I have a Utili-Master trailer and they are more known for their larger trailers very, very well built. The roof is load bearing most are not the floor is 1 1/2 plywood. We bought this used and it is aprox, 15 years old (we have had it 9 years).





Ours has been used very hard and heavy over the years the places I would look for solid construction is at the rear doors (welded frame not bolted that allows for flex)and the floor itself. The actual sheet metal used on the exterior gives a lot of strength and should be fairly thick and riveted securely to frame.



Just a side note we had (it was "needed" by someone else more :mad: ) a Pace trailer and there appears to be 3 different levels of their trailers from cheapos to solid made trailers watch yourself I think Wells has two lines as well (maybe more).
 
Trailers

I looked for a 10K lb trailer and bought a 26' Haulmark Elite II auto hauler.



Consider the floor joist spacing. Many smaller trailers have 24" OC spacing in the floor, walls and roof. Mine was 16" OC everywhere. That made it heavier but I felt better with closer structural members.



Featherlights are big money and really aren't a lot lighter for a comparable sized trailer. They are also UNLINED and that made a difference to me. I didn't want something inside shifting around and denting or punching through the sides. Aluminum is lighter than an equal size piece of steel but it takes more aluminum to handle the same size weight. Stay away from aluminum floors in the Featherlight units. Alum floors are very SLIPPERY and can be dangerous. They are advantageous to snowmobilers though.



Wells Cargo makes good trailers as some have already stated. Nobody had a similar sized triler in stock when I was ready to buy and I could not wait for an ordered unit. WC trailers are lined and now they come with LED taillights too.



When I lived near Columbia MD I visited a WC dealer on the NE side of Baltimore. He had several units in stock then (1999).



Lastly, check the interior of anything you buy and look for telltale signs of water leaks. They are easier to see on something that has been sitting for a long time.

haulmark, one of the best built,lined,and you can pick size frame you want. most are only 3 or 4 inch tube. haulmark has up 6 inch tube on a 7x14. heavy, but sronger and 16 oc crossmembers are rare without extra cash.
 
8'x16' haulmark. Good trailer. No problems fo far. I paid extra to get the 5200lbs axles, standard was 3700lbs. On all these trailers the extras are what will cost.



I looked at wells cargo also, they are probably the most expensive, but they are nice trailers.



I needed mine fast and Common Wealth trailers in Stanton? VA was able to get it. They are just east of Richmond.
