When I bought my truck, it had a 90 GAL RDS aux tank / toolbox combo... I was originally going to sell it, but thinking now I might just keep it. Before I used it, I wondered if it is possible to add a small inline fuel filter in between the tank and the fuel tank.

This unit is a gravity feed tank, feeds directly to the fuel neck thru the RDS kit. There isn't a ton of room for a big filter, but I would like to find a small inline filter to use.

Anyone got something similar they could point me to?

I was told that on the gravity systems about all you could use are the clear inline filters you see on tractors I think they are only good for catching big trash, but hey some is better than nothing. On my aux tank I use a pump to transfer it to the main tank and could have put some filtration in place, but I decided that it was easier for me to have bulk tanks at the house and pump all of my fuel from them with having the filtration and water separation that I want.

I have been using the clear in line filter on mine for close to 20 years now. True it may not be a small micron filter, but do you really need more than that? You still have the trucks fuel filter to clean the fuel prior to the truck burning it.

I gravity feed through a 10 micron fuel oil filter and a solinoid, i can gravity feed all but abput 12-13 gals. after that i have a booster pump in series with the gravity lines that pump the remainder of the fuel, once the solinoid is powered it also powers a trigger switch and a 5min. one shot timer, that only powers the pump 5 min at a time so i dont forget to urn it off ............. There is no such thing as too much filtration.I would not want to worry about an aux tank feeding any contamination into the factory system. The repair cost to the high pressure common rail system is very pricey.FCA will not pay for that type damage.I would add a good filter to reduce the risk.
