Mine just bit the dust. Even with the FASS System lift pump. I have heard that when the VP (Very Poor) fails,it fails electronically not mechanically. If this is true I'm going to rework mine. Any suggestions or advice.

I do not believe it is possible. I have read this in quite a few posts her at the TDR ;) But if you attempt it let us know how it goes.

Don't want to rain on you parade...

Good luck trying to find parts... or even a parts breakdown. You will also need a test bench for the pump once it is rebuilt.

The way I see it ; if it is a comp. board malfunc. caused by heat there's got to be a way to test the componant values individually to find the failing part. If I find the failure and replace the componant I'm gonna try to relocate the computer motule to a cooler place. I run on veggie fuel at 180*. 18K miles so far.

27 VP44 upgrades since 2001!

Bosch has made over 27 upgrades since 2001 on the VP44. If that is your original pump it maybe time for an upgrade.

I do remember having a similiar thought and found the circuit boards for $475 thru a Bosch dealer in the UK, but after more research found that low fuel pressure kills quicker than heat does. I believe alot of the upgrades have been in the electronics. Only 4-5 Bosch rebuild benches in the U. S. for calibrations!

I would also suggest a fuel pressure gauge so that you know when to change that FASS veggie filter. It is a great pump for what you are doing. Did you bypass the OEM filter and tap directly into the injector pump? That filter and it's banjo fittings may be a little restrictive for even 180* VO.

Running the veggie is what killed it. Too hot. Will probably kill the next one too if you continue to run hot veggie oil. Now if you could move the electronics to a cool place, then you might be on to something.

If you could replace the electronics board and then pay one of the Bosch test stands to calibrate it for you, would that work?

What do the electronics boards look like? Are they a board with a ribbon connector? to hook up the VP44 to the board? Could you ventilate the electronics bay cover if you could guarantee no liquid of any kind would get in? Could you put a heat sink on the electronics bay cover to draw off more heat? Would it actually lower the electronics bay temperature? How is the circuit board mounted?, on standoff's?, vertically in a slot? how?

Where was the Bosch dealer in the UK? I would much rather do $475 for the board and $2xx to recalibrate it than $1200 if you knew it was a board.

Gary and I are testing forced OAT air flow to the VP44 during driving and after shutdown. So far we can input fuel at OAT + 10* (measured with a temp sensor at the VP44) and can keep the after shutdown electronics bay cover to < OAT +20*. Figuer another +20* for VP44 internal actual temperatures and we are holding the VP44 to OAT + 40* internal maximum (I think a safe range of 140* maximum). I think the forced air flow is definitely something to think about. We are working several different fan systems. Pure fan volume seems to be a definite player. I am running a 135 cfm fan now and am going to try a 250 cfm in a couple of months. We run the fans all during engine run and for 128 minutes after shutdown.

I'm going to continue to run veggie. This is what I do. I'v installed several other same vintage trucks with veggie also. There is a way to reduce heat or remove the pc board to a remote location. I'm not going to take no for an answer.

I am working on a VP44 cooler for my truck using Koolance Hard Drive cooler. I may not install it till next year being that it is starting to get cold. basically it will be a "cool Plate" on top of VP44, lines will run from that to resovoir and mini radiator in front of truck. I will tie it into my methanol injection tank so that cool fluid goes through it. I will take pictures when I DO it. So far parts total is about $100. 00.

I sure hope you figure out how to move that electronics board. I'd love to be able to run hot SVO in my Cummins.

It's a shame we have to spend so much time and money to redisign and fix a bosch componant so it will work the way they wanted it to. I'm gonna make it happen!

Iv'e got nearly 18K miles since my VEGGIE upgrade. Better horses, better mileage, better smell, cleaner burn and nearly free fuel. The only real obstacle is this stinkin' VP.
