I am gonna move this discussion out of 911 since I made it home 350 miles at a velocity of 32 MPH. Ever tried that? The only reason this darn truck isnt burnin on the side of the road is cause it made it... ... ... ... ... ... ... .....

I checked codes on my truck... ... .

No communition between PCM and ECm

No timing index

Injection Pump failure

fuel bypass valve failure

Several others all pointiong towards Injection pump

What is a good price? New or rebuilt?

I found 2050 new

1475 bosch Reman

Going to replace the lift pump too

200 dealer'

250 with harness update

I am gonna check with Cummins tomorrow but I dont think they will even come close on price.

need more info

We need some more info to help: is the truck running smooth, just no power? Does it stop acceleratiing at 2000 rpm?

If so it sounds like it is in 'limp mode'. Try disconnecting both batteries for about five minutes. This will usually clear the limp mode.

Usually if the VP44 injection pump is bad, it is bad, and the truck won't run at all or so poorly it can't be driven.

So give us some more information on what happened and the symptoms, and maybe we can save you some $.

There are several companies in the list of vendors who sell VP44 pumps.

VP44

Mine is giving up on me too. Cummins in Cincinnatti told me yesterday that it is going out. It idles rough but other than that I have no problems. They quoted me 1400 for the pump and around 2000 for them to install it. I won't pay them because I have a service manual 4 inches thick for this truck from Chrysler. I am going to try to get it fixed under warranty but if not then I'll just buy it from Cummins and install it.

vp44

So here is/was the deal????

I had been getting some grey smoke at about 2700rpm for some time. Also a blue puff at about 2200(turbo leaking oil into intake). Ran fine until the final blah. Idled fine after restart smooth and happy. Try to accellerate and at 1100 rpm acted like it would lean out and start pinging/knocking. Couldnt even dead rev it past 1500. Drove it home 350 miles like that at just under 1100=32 mph pulling a 28' gooseneck(anybody pass me on I-85,I-95,I-295?).

After sitting 1/2 hour hard to start and idle rough eventually smoothing out. After sitting overnight no longer would run. I checked pressure at outlet side of filter=17psi. Could figure it didnt have a bad lift pump or filter with little drop acrossed the filter.

I replaced the VP44, lift pump, and filter. It has never run so good. Smooth, nice idle, and the grey cloud has not reappeared.

So in a happy ending

its fixed
