Below is a post from another DC website:

"Cab and chassis is available in 04. "

Well, not exactly. We can order a "pick-up box delete" on single rear wheel trucks only. Not Dually's. Doesn't make much since. Dodge sent us a bulletin a couple a weeks ago about how they do not want us to remove dually beds and replace them with aftermarket beds. We have been doing a lot of it anyhow, because it is a huge part of our business. I am getting ready to deliver and 04' 3500 with a bessler hay bed on it today.

I came close to ordering the Cab/Chassis because I've planned on putting a flat bed on from the get go. I was pursuaded to get the box since it was only $350 more, which made good sense. My truck tentatively will be here next week.

Any one know the skinny on this. Tomeygun or one of the sales folks know about a bulletin???

Forrest Queried:

does this make zero sense to anyone else?

Okay Gumpster, I'll make it simple.

Is anyone, particularly salesmen, aware of a recent bulletin advising against removing the box on duallies and replacing with aftermarket beds?

If this is still too complex, and you have a desire to post a reply, pm me and I'll spell it out.

TIA

I have saw absolutely NO info like that come across my desk...

And remember the Dodge ram 4000 that has a JOB 1 schedule for march/april-ish - that is a true cab-chassis with the correct cab to axle measurements

uhh... I was commenting that it made no sense that DC wouldn't offer cab/chassis in 1 tons... and that they didn't want flat beds installed by dealers... perhaps you were the one who didn't understand?

BTW, the whole "Gump" thing? really clever and original... I've NEVER heard that before!!!

Forrest

thats ok forest, I knew what you meant, the truck, not the thread

I wonder if trail dog can even spell anyway?

by the way trail dog - I heard a the 2006 ram will have the new V-10 mercedes diesel, I wanted YOU to know first !!

zip,zip as the suit is now on! :D :D :D

My apologies Forrest,

I thought you were taking a cheap shot when either no reply or a simple "Rob, I don't understand your post" would have sufficed. My fault. ::(:

There are times I wonder about the 3 GENs new frame, e. g no drilling/welding on the frame TSB, the snowplow limited applications, no snow plow prep group, and now a "no aftermarket bed" bulletin - rumor?

Ah, ha, nice try tomeygun. But it won't work against the weapons of nastiness! .

no sweat... I could have made my reply a little clearer I guess...

but yeah, it's baffling that DC would want to take the "work" out of their toughest truck! Ford has had an advantage over DC by offering their F450's and 550's while we're stuck with just the 2500 and 3500... The cab & chassis was the closest thing we had. Now, we OBVIOUSLY had the more capable engine!!! :D but it's just seems senseless of DC to even FURTHUR alienate the guy who actually plans to WORK his truck! :(

Forrest

I couldn't agree more. Seems like DC is tagging after Chevy's car-with-a-box-behind approach. I don't get it. Where are the next TRUCKS going to come from. I can remember when the Dodge mantra was "beat itself to death" because the power wagons were RAM TOUGH.

I thought the GEN 2s were a reasonable compromise. Great road ride, except for the steering (herding?). Acceptable off road, but a little mushy with the front end coil springs and heavy cummins. If it wasn't for going to a 3500, real steering, air conditioning (wife and dogs were ready to kill me on that decision), and four doors I would have been content with the GEN 2.

To put it all in perspective, it wasn't that long ago I was plumb lucky to have a truck that I could cobble together and keep running... now I'm complaining about the frivolous. yeeesh, get a life :)

bah, if we didn't aspire for "better", we'd all be living in caves right now... (course taxes would probably be low... hmm... ) ;)

Forrest

It makes no sense (the issue, not your post, OTD!). I also read the thread on the "other" site, and the only thing that makes sense? to me is that they are worried about custom beds being welded on or a bunch of holes being drilled in the hydroformed frame. There literally can't be any other reason that even pretends to be rational.

Personnally, I wouldn't give it a second thought. Go ahead with your flat deck!

my two pennies,

Dave

Beyond the drilling, welding, or excessive "squeezing" by tightening bolts w/o spacers I can't figure the reason. Which wouldn't happen with the flatbed I'm putting on.

Oh well, perhaps it just one of those heinous rumors. Although I was under the impression every post is gospel :-laf

Whew!! I was nigh ready to fly off the handle again and shoot from the hip!! :-laf

All the aftermarket beds I've seen are attached to the frame of any truck with u-bolts. Even the older "C" channel type frames utilized u-bolts so I don't think drilling is the problem.
