2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Ready to sell This Truck Over Water Leak!! HELP??

I can't take it anymore!! My '99 has developed a water leak on the driver's side. It drips down behind the kick panel area next to the emergency brake. I removed the plastic kick panel and have rags stuffed in there. I have had the windshield replaced 2X and had them put in Chrysler glass to eliminate any differences with aftermarket glass makers..... still leaks! I watched the guy calk and and install it. I highly doubt it is coming from the glass. I checked the cowl area for debris buildup..... nothing? Any Help from others with some experience would be greatly appreciated. Where could this be coming from??? :{ :{

Just because it lands on that side, does not mean it started over there.



Could be the door seal, third brake light (known problem there) Hood, Fender. Best thing that I can think of is pull up the flooring (carpet/rubber, and padding), the kick panel, close yourself inside the truck, and have someone take after your truck with a hose moving around slowly until the water starts a drippin.

Tape the outlet vents at the bottom rear of the doors shut, turn the fan on high vent outside air, then soak down the outside of the cab with soapy water. Bubbles will lead you to the leak.

I can relate. My rear window leaks and I'll be darned if I can get it to stop. Do you know for sure its coming from the front? Usually front leaks are from the AC drain and end up on the passenger's side. A leak in the rear will pond water where you describe as it drains to the lowest spot up front. If its coming from the front I can't lend much advice as all my experience is at the back glass and third brake light. You ought to pull the carpet and remove the pad underneath or it'll get stinky. Let us know what you end up with.

That's the kicker!! My carpet is not wet because I have the rag stuffed into the kick panel. I did this as soon as I noticed some water. I change it after a rain. If not the water would be all along the door sill plate. Could it be coming from up above from my roof cab light... maybe a bad seal? I already silicone my third brake light several years ago to prevent the known problem of it leaking.

I've been thinking about it and I can recall one member that reported a leak around the location you describe, but his was on the passenger's side. Dave Fritz's '94 had a leak in that area when it was new. I think he told me he bought a can of aresol white lithium grease and sprayed around the cab in the door jamb, especially near where the hinges bolt to the cab and up around the cowl. You may want to contact him via the link on his dodgeram.org site. I swapped some emails with him when I first noticed my leak. There may even be some info on his site about it under the 'Dave's Ram' menu.

Mine was leaking into the cab from the underside of the drivers side door. One of the plastic plugs were missing. I filled it with silicon and the leak stopped.

Have you checked the drain tube for the A/C? Mine had the same problem - the elbow that runs through the firewall had broken off and all of the condensation was dripping on my passenger side floor board.

The Eastwood Company makes a leak detection kit for Body leaks. I believe they add a UV die to water and use a blacklight. I would try that.

Thanks for all the tips! Anyone who has ever had a water leak knows how frustrating it can be.



I was able to do some checking last night and it is definitely coming down the inside of the driver kick panel along the front wall where the inner front fender joins the cab. It is very hard to see up that access opening with a mirror due to the E-brake pedal being right there. Maybe it is the windshield again but what are the chances... 2x?? I did have a mouse nest in my cowl behind the wiper motor area. I vacuumed it all out but I worry that I might have some rust where the nest was. Probably took the nest forever to dry out after a rain, plus the corrosive urine from the little rat bast_rd!! I sure hope my cowl floor doesn't have a hole in it!:{

Dicovered that I have a leak. The carpet is dry, but the backing was loaded with water. I wouldn't have found out had I not pulled the carpet up to do an installation.



I haven't found the leak yet, BUT Lawrence said that his was leaking at the C-pillar/cab junction above the rear glass. He found it with the carpet up and a water hose.



I'm going to try the bubbly thing.

Since you don't have a signature or any truck info on your profile, this may or may not apply. If you have cab marker lights, they can be a source of water leaks - the water can run down the a-pillar to the area you describe.
