Towing regulations and laws

Just got my Jacobs brake installed on my 2003 and am ready to take on Monarch pass in Colorado. 4th gear, 40MPH and no conventional brakes required. At least thats what my 2001 would do. Me, my HO Ram and my Arctic Fox(22GQ) are ready. Come on June 26th. I am in search of 10,000 feet to escape the Louisiana heat. Salida, Pitkin, Gunnison, Ridgeway and Lizard Head. Will 4-wheel over numerous mountain passes, fish in Trout Lake, Hike to Hope Lake and Lizard Head.

Pass

Hey you ole Goat. I live right here in Delta Co and was raised up by Gunnison ( Powderhorn). I have two dodges an 92 and an 01. The 01 has an E-brake . I travel all these Mt passes all the time. Just two weeks ago I brought a 1978 Ford on a car hauler from Cortez via Durango and Silverton. That old E-brake is the only way to go. I have pulled my 5er over every pass around Colorado. The 92 pump has been turned way up. The 01 is an H. O. 6 Speed, edge e-z, 275 injectors, gages. Love it.

I haven't pulled anything on the Million Dollar highway. Its a nice drive with very tight turns. The whole area is very nice. I typically dodge all the tourist traps as much as possible. I have been over the Pass at St. Elmo, Opher, Immigene, and numerous others on my ATV. There are several backroad passed around Pitkin well will probably tackle.

Don't forget to wash off the trail dust in the Ouray hotsprings pool! My wife got in it and the police had to fire warning shots across the pool to get her out at closing time!!

Oh, and the Ouray KOA is a NICE place to stay. Been going there since the mid 80's and thats where we settled on staying when we go there. Actually will be there from July 20 till the 26th. Sadly, not taking the Dodge. Gotta take the motorhome (towing the Jeep) for creature comforts.

I'm headin' that way on my way to our new station in Texas in July so I'm open if you guys wanna throw out some good campin spots that a 34' 5th wheel will get into. Got my E-brake already so no worries there. I wanna spend a few days in Colorado enjoying the cool weather before hit the Texas coast. We are going through Grand Junction, Gunnison and over to Pueblo. Any suggestions? I've been through a few years on my street bike and all I remember was how beautiful it was there.

Thanks,

Pat

My favorite place to camp is between Telluride and Rico. It is called Matterhorn Camp ground. It is near Trout Lake and Lizard Head pass. It is 10,000 feet elevation and will be cool. It is a National Forest Camp Ground. They take reservations, but I don't have that number. However, there is a web site for the company that books the sites for the Forest Service. Just can't remember it. Reservation will insure a spot, since it has full hook-ups on several sites. I will be there July 7,8 & 9.

The views in the area are awsome. There are several hiking trails in the area. There are several back road passes to take. We typically use ATVs. It is a short trip to Telluride. You can leave out and go through Cortez and on to New Mexico.

There is a couple nice camp ground right here in Delta that can accommodate you. Flying - A or Over the Hill (koa). Also if you stay in Delta don't miss the Grand Mesa. some of the real beauty here in Colorado. Try me on the ole telephone, I may be in town. Will treat you so many ways your bound to like on of them !!!!!!!

WBlackburn, Do you know any Harts from Gunnison? I grew up there and my brother, sister and parents still live there? I get back most every year for a visit. In fact my uncle lives in Delta, the trailer court just across the river from town; my brother also has a good friend there, Dale Kimber. I remember some Howards and Ted Bennet from Powderhorn.

The E-brake is the ticket for mountain towing. I didn't have one on my 99 for the two trips to Colorado. The Cummins goes up the passes real good, but you need the brake for downhill

e brake is the only way to go. Towing a 5th anywhere. One of the best money ever spend on the ctd. :)
