Real Push Bar

Does anyone out there know where I can find(manufacturer) a non-dressup push bar/grille guard. I want something that will somewhat protect the front of my truck, when the inevitable idiot gets in my way. Most of what I have come across is for "looks", not function. I'd appreciate any comments.

I have a Ranch Hand on the front of my '96, I sure like it, but I'm not recommending them anymore. They started using cheap mexican steel that rusts extremely fast. I've also heard that Ranch Hand is having some of the products they sell made in Taiwan. A friend of mine put a grill on his daugters blazer... ... The mounting holes didn't even line up.

I just installed a push guard that I fabricated out of 1\8 in. steel tubing 2in x 3in. I had my brother inlaw weld it together at his plant. It is attached to the frame through four existing holes with 1/2 grade 8 bolts. Its mounted between the fog lights and is just an inch higher then the bumper. I added tow hooks that was one of the main reason for building one instead of buying one, the ones I have seen are just for looks and they aren't that good looking. This one is heavy duty and doesn't hide the famous Ram grille.

I have found a grill guard made by easley that is pretty good all around. It looks good and it is stout. It has rubber bumpers down the uprights so you can push someone if you need to. I got this grill guard for $269. 00 and in my opinion it is worth every penny. You can buy a heavier grill guard called a ranch hand. It is made of 6" pipe and heavy plate but the extra weight and wear and tear it puts on your front end, it is best to go with the easley for less wear and tear. I'm from Oklahoma and pruchased it from the dealer,but any farm and ranch supply should carry it. Let me know how you come out,if you dont have any luck get back with me and maybe I can help you out.

I know Cody at rough country, he builds the highest quality bumper replacements avaliable, and his prices are unbeatable. I have bought several replacements from him and he has taken good care of me. If you want any more information about his products let me know. Here in Texas we use our pick-ups and there is not a manufactured grille gaurd out there that will stand up to the frequent collisions with deer and other large objects that tend to find their way into the road as well as Rough Country's.

Has anyone tried the bumper/grill guard combo like they use on wreckers. I found a catalog A. W. Direct that supplies towing equipment. I know it may be overkill but that happens to be my CB handle and I want a serious bumper.

AW Direct used to have a guard that was used on police vehicles that was very strong. A State Patrol car once pushed started me with one,which is saying a lot since I was driving a full 3000 gallon tank truck.

I had the welding shop that made my aluminum flatbed and toolbox make me a steel bumper that looks almost exactly like the Prozap. It weighs about 250 lbs and is plenty strong. Clipped a rock wall while making a turn in a real tight area (thought it would clear #ad
) and knocked the rock out. Bumper only had scratched paint which a quick touch up with a can of gloss black made it look like new. The stock bumper would have been bent back into the body. Another advantage is the flat top of my custom bumper is a good place to set your beer, tools, parts etc while working on the truck.

I just recently added a front end replacement to my truck and i love it... like CHACE said here in texas there is a very good chance of nailing something in the road so i wanted the extra protection... It's called body guard and is made in Junction Texas... unfortunantly there is no web site, but i can get you a number. The only down side is the weight, it dropped the front of my truck about 2 in and i am going to put some heavier springs on the front to make up for it... . it weighs about 400 lbs. but i don't think i am going to lose a head on with a deer... #ad

I have an Easley ( Mfg in Tx and NM tough w/ sch 20 tubing and 3/8 plate ) Elk strainer, I have used it for plowing roads through cedar and aspen breaks. It also has 2. 5" thick rubbers on the vertical 3/8"x 3"plate Td on the 3/8" uprite plates so as not to scratch the paint on the bull bar. It is designed to funnel any thing smaller than a big Lincoln ( hondas and low riders especally ) right under the front axle where they belong and shove the s#*t out the others. It aint the purdyest but its about the sturdyest. The DTT crew cussed it when they had to r & r it for the transmission cooler. It wraps around the sides behind the bumper and side markers

Anyone running a heavy bumper ever have a collision or hit a deer, etc? What were the results? I recall someone recently saying the the add on brush guards cause more damage than they prevent.

The few trucks I have seen with brush bars have had the hood, grill and lights damage with no heat exchanger or radiator damage. thies were not the HD Bull bars but they did spread the impact over the entire front of the vehicle thus causing superficial damage but the vehicles were driveable.

the only impact i have seen with a deer and the ranch hand the deer was much worse off than the truck... . My understanding is that the bumper is designed to push them down and under the truck as well as spread the impact so the guy i saw with the truck that had hit the deer had no damage to the truck... other than a little blood stain... #ad

From the many deer crashes I've seen with the lighter weight 'dress up' guards you can expect less damage to the truck if you hit the deer in the center of the truck. As you work your way back from the center to the fenders more damage than would have happened without the guard. This is because the guard most always folds back and creams the entire front,but will protect the vitals in a direct center hit.

I had one made South of the Border (thanks NAFTA). It is serious steel pipe that bolts to the frame and through the bumper in four places. I had it Chrome plated by a company in Austin. It looks like one made for show, but it is faily heavy duty. Not deer proof though.

Mostly all the add-on brush guards are mostly for show, made with very thin wall steel tubing. My brush guard is made with 1. 5 inch dia. steel pipe, . 250 inch thick. We don't have deer problems where I live but we do have the occaisional rice burners crossing the center line or passing on a double yellow line two lane highway. I usually speed up when I see them coming in my lane.
