Here is a pic of a real truck!

We had to work on it, and i decided to take a couple of pics.

Powered by a 3512 cat, sounds awsome!

Just wanted to stir up some stuff

Don't get confused with real truck and the ford! lol

You need something with which to load her up if ya wanna work her! :D

Just in case you think this pic was tampered with or doctored in any way:

But ya know, maybe that Tonka Truck ain't big enough to haul much dirt, so maybe we need to get one a tad larger:

Yeah, thats much better! :D

Those trucks can haul everything I own (swamp land, trailer house, autos and belongings) and then some. Heck, my Dodge can do that  Sure makes you feel like an ant in this world. :(

I would love to climb into that steam shovel (is that what we call them now?) Does the crew of that thing live in it? LOL

And I'd love to drive one of them dump trucks once.

Thats one big digger. The photo at ground level with the folks looking on brings the size into focus.

The other photo does look fake. . it's just sooo out of proportion.

Cool. .

I dont know about the yellow one hauler... , but if my memory is correct the Liebherr is actually a hybrid electric.

The big desiel actually runs a generator.

Each wheel has it's own electric motor.

No transmission or transfer case.

Just batteries, variable voltage drive buss (don't remember if it's AC or DC) and regen braking.

big tonka toys..

I was picking up a load at a mining equipment expo in Vegas last year, and they had a couple of those HUGE dumpers. It took 18 big trucks to bring all the pieces in. As the show was over, they drove them out of the building into a corner of the lot where there were two mobile cranes waiting to disassemble them. I was inside the trailer securing some equipment (not for long) when I heard them coming out of the building. I knew it wasn't any truck engine! They had a guy stationed on each corner of the truck with a walkie-talkie so they wouldn't run over anything. It was pretty cool!

DNelson,

I actually thought LiebHerr was a US company... well atleast that they are here in the US making these monsters...

But is that an honest translation?

Bob

These huge mechanical beasts of burden do make one feel small and insignificant don't they? Here is a site where I found a few of those pics if you really wanna feel puny!

Some of the dippers on those draglines can hold up to 100+cu. yards of fill. Thats a lot of dirt, coal, whatever. It is amazing to see how the new ones are constructed as well. More akin to building a skyscraper than a machine. :D And yes they are electric with as many as three or more massive generators the size of a tractor trailer or larger.

Ouch!!

I remember that one,it happend at the borax mine in boron if my memory is right. brought on a lot of safety changes after that.

Do you have a VIN # for the truck in that picture? How do we know that that is a real Chevy and not a dressed up photo? We all know that Chevy is 'Like a Rock' :D

Later,

Joe
