One of the "got the market covered" guys in my shop is claiming all new Diesel pick ups are terrible with fuel consumption. I don't recall seeing a survey on the subject pertaining to the new rigs, so here goes.

Looking for mileage figures on the newer 4th generation SCR/ DEF equipped 25-3500 SINGLE WHEEL trucks. Weather they are city or Hiway numbers, please state that. Thanks, and let's put the BS to bed. I know you're all getting better than 11 bobtail n tailwind!

Best hand calculated mileage I've got on 2016 3500 SRW Aisin pickup is a smidgen over 21MPG at an average of 1700 RPM per 4.5 hours of driving. I just crossed 12K miles and have added a total;of 5 gallons of DEF since I took delivery.

Thanks Guys! Looks like the numbers are back to what the 5.9 was putting up pre EGR/DPF. Of course I'm ignoring the DEF costs, we'll write that off to Mother Nature and point to the whistle clean tailpipe.

Here is my Fuelly.com account info. Every penny spent on fuel beginning at about 1000 miles.
Just over 8000 miles on the truck and I've averaged 18.3 mpg to date. Probably 2000 miles of that towing a light 4000 pound load.
the rest a split between city and highway miles.

Hey Bruce, I like the Fuelly account, I may start one too. Your city cycle is a lot like mine. Have you had to do any stationary regenerations, or have any issue? Or do you manage to do it when you hit the hi way?

My fully average for 4300 miles is 15.8 on my 2016 DRW CTD with G56 trans. That number includes 700 miles of towing a 35 foot TT. I get 11.5 towing, 17-19 bobtail. The DRW gives a little less MPG than an SRW. Its still very good on fuel. DEF consumption is a non issue.

In 35,000 miles I've averaged just about 17.5 on my 15 3500 srw. That's mixed highway, rural secondary and a little city. That's also 20% towing an 18,500lb GN. That's the same if not a little better than my 04.5 under the same conditions.

Hey Beard - I'm guessing that Fuelly is an App for smartphones where we manually enter date and it calculates and stores it?

I am pretty much not aware of regenerations. Once when the truck was new (under 3000 miles) I smelled what seemed like a new exhaust burning off. Occasionally, the fuel mileage seems low for a trip and I'm guessing that there was a regen happening but in general it is all very seamless.
love this truck!

Thats affirmative! I have the app on my smart phone and when I fill up, I record the mileage, cost, gallons used, brand, location and payment method. I add the trucks calculated mileage from the EVIC reported mileage for the run and hit enter. Then I reset the various EVIC mileage pages and I'm off. Adds about a minute to my fuel stop if I'm dawdleing...

I'd be interested in what gearing you guys are running and if you're 2X4 or 4X4 (I see most of you have the 4X4 in your sig is you have it)? It is a Pretty good gap between the 3.42 and 4.10.

I'll have to amend my signature, sorry!
My truck is 4x4 with 3.42 differentials.

excellent. That's how it's suppose to be! Unfortunately all my working experience with class 5 and down is with Fords. Since we have one as a shop rig, I experienced an "exhaust cleaning" as its conveyed on the message center. I gotta say I was embarrassed and ashamed to have been driving that thing. Smoke and noise.

My 13 2500 Megacab gets about 18-20 bobtail at 70+ and 13-14 towing 9000#, a little more on the flat. Indicated mileage is anywhere from 0.5 to 1.5 mpg higher than those calculated numbers. I have recently realized I get about 0.5 to 1 mpg higher when I tow at 67 which, in tow/haul is right on the 6.7's torque peak.

19 to 21 running empty, 12 pulling a 6500# boat, and 12 to 13 hauling a 3100# TC. Did see 15.5 once between Haines Junction and Whitehorse hauling the TC, must of been a good tailwind.

Brand new truck (see sig) -
first tank 17.2MPG (EVIC said 18.0) - 1/3 city, 2/3 highway. several 100 mile highway trips. Empty and 2 passengers.
2nd tank - highway and about 75 miles on county roads - all same trip - got 18.5 (EVIC said 19.2) about 300 lbs cargo and 1 passenger.
Got 880 miles on it now.
Def gauge hasn't moved yet.

And....
My "goodie" box just arrived from Genos.....can't wait, can't wait.....

Averaging 15 - 17 around town ( I have a 1.5 mile commute now) Highway average 18-23. Had two tanks down in the Fla Keys ( US1 few lights and speeds never going over 50 mph) that were just shy of 28. DEF use bobtail 1000-1300 miles per gal of DEF. Towing 450- 550 miles per gal of DEF. I'm just shy of 60,000 miles on the clock.
