I'd be interested in what gearing you guys are running and if you're 2X4 or 4X4 (I see most of you have the 4X4 in your sig is you have it)? It is a Pretty good gap between the 3.42 and 4.10.

That's why I ordered mine with 3.73s.

How do I delete a duplicate post?

That's why I ordered mine with 4X4 & 3.73s. 10mpg 26.5 gross.

After having a '97 2500 2x4 and getting 21 hiway 17 city and 12 pulling a 35 ft FW I'm disappointed in my new to me '13 3500 CC, DRW, 4x4, auto, 3.42 diffs that gets 16/17 mixed city/hiway and 8/9 towing a heavier 35 ft FW. I still love the truck, diesels should be inline 6's.

I get about 11-12 pulling a 12,500 travel trailer. On a recent 3500 mile solo trip I got 15-15.5, mostly 65MPH non towing. I thought that was pretty good for my truck. The 03 would give in the low 20s if I kept it down to 60 MPH, but that was an NV5600 with 3.73 ratio.

I certainly hope you weren't expecting equal or nearly equal mileage going from a 4x2 SRW to a 4x4 DRW with almost double the torque and meeting far more strict emission requirements while pulling a heavier trailer???

The 97-98 12 valve is legendary. And is to this date one of the best used diesels ever to (have originally) come off a production line.

But I'm thinking your 2013 has more than double the torque & hp??????? You gotta expect that power & torque to come from burning fuel.

8000 miles, 2015 sb AISIN 3:42 megacab 4x4.. Pulling Montana Rv as L was 8.3.. High so far 11.4...usually between 9 to 10 mpg.. Empty, over 19 mpg so far.. Combined 16 ...

A guy can always dream. I knew it would be somewhat less, it was just more less than I had hoped for. I'm still keeping it!

My 2014 2500 4X4 cc sb averages 24 mpg @ 60 - 65 mpg hwy with DW, 2 - 15 lb four legged friends and close to 300 lbs in the bed. (5er hitch & Gen set). Banging around town in stop and go she'll pull 17 mpg or so and pulling along our 9,000 pound 5er she'll do 12 or so. There isn't a 1/2 mile difference if I hand calculate or watch the truck meter. DEF is a different story, 3000 miles and still reads full. (Todays readings after 4 day trip)

We just completed a trip of over 6743 miles. We have a 5th wheel which weights 13217 lbs.Keeping to Shell, and Chevron as much as possible without being gouged on pricing we consumed 450 gallons of diesel. This gave us a combined average of 14.9 mpg.Our speed was limited to 60-65 mph due to the speed rating on our trailer's tires. All highway, and grades were set on cruise control. The states we went through were OK,KS,CO,WY,ID,UT,SD,OR,WA,CA,AZ,NM, and back to TX.I really enjoyed the trip with this truck,it pulls it like king kong. The ride is real smooth.

23,028 miles 1,154.6 gallons diesel equals 19.94 mpg. Zero towing miles.

This summer we took a short trip, 1,200 miles, and got 25.348 mpg on one tank (all highway miles), this was my highest mpg.

My lowest mpg was 14.029 in February 2015 (first fill up) let it idle while trying to figure out how to set up radio/dash etc plus it was cold weather.

My last 10 tanks (including trip) averaged 21.76 mpg

All numbers were done on excel spreadsheet. The overhead is usually 1.5 to 2 mpg higher.

lf speed limit is 65-70 I'll set cruise to 63-65 and let the traffic pass me by.

I retire October 1st and hope to travel a little more. I spent to many years putting it off.

Thanks for sharing your numbers.

Tomorrow is my 3 year anniversary, so i will say goodbye to my factory bumper to bumper warranty, and hello to my Max Care warranty (7 year, 70,000 miles) So i have 4 years & 45,000 miles of warranty left. Like i said, tomorrow is my 3 yr anniversary. Today i have 24,995 miles. I expect to hit 25,000 miles today. But my truck came with 13 miles on it, so my 25,000 mile mark will actually be 25,013. And for warranty purposes, my max care will actually be good until 70,013 miles (unless i hit 7 years first) i have a very under-utilized truck. But i do have almost 5000 miles of towing. My wife gets nervous and anxious when we are towing, so she has put an end to my vacation towing. She was in an accident when she was 18 years old where she was in a Honda CRX that got forced off the road by an out of control semi. So i accept her PTSD with large towing vehicles. That accident changed her life.

That mileage is outstanding.

Thank you! Thank you very much!

It pays to drive a little slower :-laf

I don't need a truck like this but my old 2000 "Dodge" half ton short bed with the 5.9 (360ci) V8 only got around 14 mpg. I traded it in on a 2006 Dodge

Ram 5.9 reg cab diesel.

I drove the 06 9 years and over 116k miles and averaged 18.2 mpg on an excel spreadsheet.

Ya gotta love these these new Ram trucks.

I agree I mean the way people drive today it just makes sense to bring the speed down.I see people passing in the right hand lane now,and with very tinted windows and small mirrors to boot, they come extemely close to the front end of a truck towing in the right hand lane. And it always seems to me at least everybody races up the hills now.Even if it is a 6-8 percent grades for about 12 to 15 miles long.I drop my speed to hold 2000 rpm in 5th gear and set cruise on 64 mph.And the magic begins to start.Running well in the 300 per tank full now.Plus DEF usages falls as well.So it is a win situation.I may not get their at 5:00 for happy hour at the RV site but since retire happy hour is every day now.

While you see people passing in the right hand lane, I see jerks riding in the passing lane. Personally, I prefer the Richard Petty approach. Come up on some mope in the passing lane and put the chrome horn to them. It didn't work out well for Petty and probably would be worse for me but hogging the passing lane is just cause for road rage as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I don't see a problem with passing in the right lane....if the left lane is occupied by slower drivers......who need move over.

Last time i was on I-285 NB around Atlanta pulling a 5k lb TT, a Ram 4500 went flying by me pulling a fully loaded wedge-shaped 3 car hauler. He was moving fast! About 10-15 miles closer to Atlanta, he had lost control on a curve and dumped his whole rig up an embankment & into the trees. He probably didn't realize what that extra weight sitting over his truck bed would do to his center of gravity. Don't think anyone was hurt. Everybody (two guys) in the truck was walking around looking at the damage. Driving a bit slower saves more than just fuel.

And even when you're in the slow lane (right lane) there are people honking you because they want to hit the off ramps going fast.

Mileage is very speed dependant. We drove from NW GA to Charleston, SC, two people and luggage, no towing on cruise control at 72 mph and got 22.3 mpg. Filled up at a truck stop between Augusta and Columbia and then took the 2-lane roads at 55-60 with no cruise trying to see the best possible mileage with very gentle throttle, 25.8 mpg. To and from work at 55-60 and 3-4 miles of traffic in Chattanooga it gets 21.2-21.7. Indicated mileage is 0.5-2 mpg better than actual hand figured.
Towing 21' bass boat indicates 15.3 at 72 mph and around 17.3 at 55-60 mph.

If you gas on it accelerating and/or run at high speed she knows how to put the fuel away.
