Rv Sewer Question

Hitch ball height

I have a 3500-4000 pound travel trailer that I used to pull with my 97 GMC Yukon 350. I never worried about axle temp and never had any problem. If I didnt have any problems with the Yukon, is there any reason I should worry about axle temp problems with my 02 quad cab RAM ?

4000 pound trailer? Too much for your rear axle? This is a joke right? I tow close to 14,000 pounds with no trouble at all...

I've towed our 7,000# trailer nearly 10,000 miles in the last two years and have not had a single problem. There are many here towing wayyyyy more than that. Don't worry, you'll love it.

Have over 400k on my truck, empty trailer weighs 9200, regularly gross 30-34k(truck weighs 8200-8600). Still have the original 4. 10 with nothing but oil changes. Shop checked it out when I rebuilt the front axle and said it was A-OK. Heck I carry 4 to 5000 on my flatbed no problem. Carried on the bed, 4800 from Baton Rouge to New Jersey at highway speeds plus.

Make sure the fluid is changed at regular intervals and filled to the proper height. These trucks are workhorses IMO. :D :D :D

Buck, put some good synthetic oil in the rear diff, fill it all the way properly, and drive off without any worries.

Thanks,

I didnt think I had a concern. But after looking at this site for a couple of months, I wanted to ask just to be safe. Also, my local diesel mech suggested a temp guage (he may have been just trying to sell me something) He also recommened a guage for EGT. We have a lot of mountains in the northwest. But my truck is all stock and I didnt think I really needed to worry about anytning. (anyone know a good diesel mech in the Seattle area ?)

I just had a Mag-Hytec cover put on. I had 23,000 miles on the oil from when I put the locker in. The oil still looked good after towing the 5er and gooseneck these miles. It was not dark at all. I plan on changing oil again after about 30,000 miles.

MBuck, for finding a good mechanic in the area I would suggest you log onto the Northwest Bombers. You can register for free. They are a great bunch, and will certainly help you find the things you need in your area. They get together quite often to help each other work on their trucks too if you have an interest in doing some of it yourself. I can't say enough positive things about them, give it a shot, you won't be disappointed. Here is a link to the site.

MBuck, you probably will see temperaturs in the low 200's, depending upon weather and road temperature. I've seen temperatures as high as 240 on an extremely hot day in North Carolina pulling my TT up a 6% grade on a 96 degree day. Normal temps ride around 190-200 on an extended trip and not towing. When I'm towing, I normally see 215-220 degrees. I try to change the lube every 30K miles. Hope this helps.

My last trip at GCVW 17,670lbs, I saw the following

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . Flats Hills

Dana 70... ... ... ... ... 160... ... 200

NV4500... ... ... ... ... . 180... ... 225

USGear 2sp... ... ... . 220... ... 275+ (Can't use OD full time)

LE 607 oil in all.
