Cab Clearance Lights Question

2024 Map Update

Anyone adjust the rear ride height sensors to give a lower alternate trailer height?
If yes, how far can you go without getting into bump stops while driving?

The sensors can be adjusted by rotating the mount. Lower in alternate will mean lower in normal and that may make for a rougher ride

Truck isn’t a daily driver, rarely gets driven without gooseneck. Ride quality isn’t big concern, but riding on bump stops would be bad.

You cannot change that. Regardless of how you adjust the sensors the truck will always level and alt ride height will not change.

Many folks, including myself, have been able to adjust the position of the sensor bracket and change ride height.

There are also companies that sell longer/adjustable links but I’ve never tried them.

All correct, but he was asking about the truck's Alternate Ride Height setting, you cannot change that.

Yes you can, as I’ve said I’ve done it. If you alter normal ride height you alter alt ride height. The truck doesn’t know what level is, it knows the position on the height sensor that is normal and 1” down for alternate.

It may take more payload to get the full 1” drop if you lower the truck, but it can happen. It may also take more weight to engage alternate ride height.

Correct, but you didn't change the alt drive height function, you changed the normal ride height which affected the alt ride height. We are really into the semantics. I stand by my statement. You cannot change the alt ride height function, but you can do something that will affect it.

Like you, I've experimented with those adjusters a lot. Regardless of their setting, my alt ride height drops 1 1/4". My normal ride height doesn't measurably change, it mostly affects the side-to-side leveling. The OEM adjusting is so limited I'm thinking about purchasing Revel's adjustable links.

There is a difference in the alternate ride height setting, which can be changed, and the alternate ride height function which cannot be changed. You’ve used both terms.

If you are in alt ride height mode you can adjust the sensors and change the height setting of alt ride height, just like you would in normal. You don’t have to be in normal to adjust the sensors, but it gives you more room.

I’ve been able to make pretty decent height adjustment changes with the stock brackets but the adjustable links sound easier.

Thanks. I didn't know that. Learn something new every day.
To get in alt ride height mode I have to be hooked up (weight on the hitch), not sure I would want to try adjusting while hooked up. Is there any advantage to adjusting while in the alt ride height mode?

The only advantage would be if you wanted to dial in alt height be normal height more precisely.

It's dawning on me, we may have we been talking about two different truck types. My 2020 HO just has the rear levelers. Are you talking about a truck with air ride?

Same suspension, but the 2500’s work similar.

Turns out the sensor and arm can be “snapped” apart and re-clocked.
Match mark before you start so you can get back to original, or know how far you’ve moved it.
I’ll report back if any problems arise.

I’ve put about 3000 miles on truck with “adjusted” ride height sensors. There must be some minimum factory air pressure or something going on. “Normal” height is a good bit lower, “alternate” height is not much different than alternate before adjustment. ‍♂️
