Rear axle disassembly

Well, once again my truck is parked. I was trying to replace the parking brake cables: The front one snapped and the rears were very sticky.

I pulled the axle out of the driver's side only to find I needed yet another wierd socket. #@$%! From what I've found, its called a rounded hex.

KD Tools lists the 2 3/8 and 2 9/16 as being Dana tools. Does any one know exactly what size and/or a part number for me to buy one?

Thanks SRadke. The Oreillys by my house had the socket as well as new locknuts!

On another note, the shoes are flush with the mounting rivets.

So, what are people doing to the brakes to make them better, more reliable, etc?

Also, a couple of other threads on here talk about using a different style lock nut in the rear.

It is the same size as the front. I used Stage 8's locking nut up front. This thing is great. Would it be possible to use this in the rear as well?

No experience with those nuts but by the site it looks like they have one that will work.

So, after much headache and a few projects for budies, my rear brakes are done.

Or so I thought.

After I put everything together, I found out I have to turn the new drums on the old hubs.

My question is this:

What are the odds that I can, using a dial indicator, loosen the studs enough to allow the drum to move loosely, and try to center it.



Also, has anyone had any luck with the 'auto' adjusters for the shoes?

Thats one thing when the 92' get back to the house im doing. . those drums are coming off the back either by themselves or by force lol... the KD# KDS2437 bought mine shortly before a small town dealer went out of business. . 2 9/16
