My book for a '98 has the following for non LSDs:

9-1/4 in. - 2. 3L/4. 9 pints

248-RBI - 3. 0L/6. 3 pints

267-RBI - 3. 3L/7. 0 pints

286-RBI(2WD) - 3. 2L/6. 8 pints

286-RBI(4WD) - 4. 8L/10. 1 pints

As far as how the above labels relate to Dana-70, I don't know. Maybe someone else could help out with that.

TDK,

Our DC dealership in Sealy used to be Dowell, but has since been bought out by Henson's. They are real easy to deal with. Also, since you bought your truck from them originally, they will probably be extra cordial with you. My truck was purchased new at Hensons in Madisonville (not by me). :D

I think some of you are assuming the lsd is working. Put a load on it and see if Both tires will spin. If they don't then to me the lsd is not working. I found this out last summer while hauling wood. I got a locker and use the 75-140 synthetic and don't have to worry about this. I remember reading if you use too much friction modifier it will keep the lsd from working. I changed my fluid with a fair amount of heavy towing at 23,000 and the oil was not dark. ( Put the Mag-hytec on. ) I don't think yours was in bad shape since you don't tow or haul anything but yourself. AJ. I hope you get back on the road and have no problems

Okie-Go is correct to much and LSD does not work. Not enough and it chatters and can cause weird tire wear. One problem with dealer is they have the table and it says put in so many ounces modifier for so may pints of diff. oil. They do this and think they are down and return truck to you!!!!! Can be same way when purchase a new truck too I doubt they do 8's at the factory, correct me if I am wrong. Most of the times everything okay BUT!!!

TxDieselKid ~ Dealer still can be full of it and probably are for the most part. Good ones with good mechanics few and far in between. It is a shame!!! Waht you can do and comfortable in doing do yourself.

TxDieselkid- Amsoils rear diff. oil says it has friction modifiers(The Series 2000 Gear Lubes supply limited slip performance without aftermarket limited slip additives) in it and does not need any additional. On mine and sons(99) we did not have to add anything. Some do and some don't.

Thanks for all the help guys. I got the truck back after I took them my fliud, and who knows if they used it. But it doesn't have the problem anymore so who knows. If it does start up again, I'll just try a bottle of friction modifer from Napa, or some other autoparts store, I don't wast that Stealer getting any more $$ then he has to. :p

I have Okie's old LSD in mine. Amsoil and no modifier. I'm going to add a little as now it chatters a little during really sharp turns.

It will spin both on pavement but put one wheel on gravel and the other on pavement and it's a different story. Perfect for towing in winter though...

Blake, I have the loc-rite locker in mine. I promise you both tires will spin.

Thanks. I did not know they made a loc-rite for these Danas. I have a detroit locker, but don't have it in yet. How does your truck perform on the highway? What about snow and ice?

Take care,

Blake

Mine chatters about half the time on left hand turns. Does the chattering hurt anything other than tire wear? It doesn't bother me as far as just hearing and feeling it.

Blake, where I live there is no ice and snow. I haven't seen any yet at least. I bought it cause I need all the traction I can get from both tires like in damp grass or in a pasture hauling hay or wood out of the timber or filling a deer feeder. To me the lsd wouldn't cut it. I had to get the lock-right cause I was told Detroit did not make one for the Dana 80 in the 3. 55 gears. They did have one for the 4. 10. I don't know but they may have one now. It does chirp on occassion or buck a little. I have learned to drive it and it is very seldom I hear it.
