Is there anyway for me to change to a lower rear axle ratio in my Dana 80?
I have the 3. 55 ratio right now, and would like to go to a 2. 73 or similar.
(I do NOT want 4. 10's)
Is this, or something close, Possible?

Also, I need the Rear-Wheel speed Sensor disk. See the reason.
My ABS Disk is pretty well chewed up, several teeth ground down, and some completely missing.
Does anybody Have one?
Or Know where to get one at either used, or for less than Full Price?

Thanks,

MerrickNJr

If you want a slightly lower ratio you need to go to 3. 73's and 3. 92's are the next and only step before 4. 10's. Pick up an issue of four wheeler magazine, there are tons of gear companies, you will be able to get the exciter ring from one of those companies too. New gear sets seem to be 175-250 and the exciter ring can't be a lot. Hope this helps.

This should get you started anyway.

i'm confused , is that a typo , 2. 73 ???? why so hi ? in od at 65 you be barely at idle rpm ?????

what happened to your rear ? you will either need to find one for parts or go to the dealer . you may be better off trying to score a used rear from a wreck .

Excuse the delayed response...

Well, what I really wanted was a really Numericly Low Rear-end speed. I thought I had heard some old Muscle cars had a 2. 73 or 2. 72 rear end.
My truck does not tow anymore, and I would love to get the Low RPM on the highway.
Right now, at 70MPH I am around 2,200 RPM.
I want to gear for about 1,500+ RPM at 70, but not more than 2,000.

I always use first, so taking off is not a big deal.
The engine has more than enough power to accomodate for a numericly low rear-end speed.

I know lugging the ISB Is bad, and anything below 1,600RPM is lugging, so I think I found what I needed to find.

This company has a 3. 21-3. 33rear-end speed. This is what I am looking forward to getting.

These are my two pennies for now...

Why don't you try an underdrive unit. It may be cheaper, or about the same, as a geat swap, plus there are many other advantages.

I know I'm not in my place here (I drive a 12v) but doesn't the 24v like to cruise at 1900+ rpm's. I don't know what it is, but I know it's higher than the 12v 1700rpms.

I had my eye on a Gear Vendors Overdrive unit,, until I saw the 2 Grand price tag.

I think a ring and pinion set will be cheaper, since the seals are mostly likely bad anyway,, but I'll have to make sure the seals are bad before I replace them.

If you do a ring and pinion change then go and get the Mag-hytec cover so you wont have to remove the cover to change the fluid next time. I got this and I love it. It was $235 for the Dana 80. I can pour the fluid right from the bottle into the diff. plus it holds 8qts. now not 4 so the diff. will be 45 deg. cooler operating temp. Also has a dipstick which is magnetic to pick out metal when checking the level. #ad

3. 54 is the lowest numerical diff ratio I have been able to find for the Dana 80. You can get a 3. 07 for the Dana 70; Dodge used it in some first gen diesels (automatics before the overdrive trans came out). Try tall tires, and remember the drivetrain won't like 1600 rpm even if the engine tolerates it. Best cruising is 1900 rpm+ whether 12 or 24 valve for the health of the drivetrain. Too much engine vibration, etc. at lower rpm.
