I just got another set of tires for my rig and found out that three of my rear axle to hub bolts are broken!!! My truck is a 97, ext. cab, 4X4, 35" BFG's, TST #10 plate all the way forward, a clutch from Blue Chip, and 372,000 miles. I produce about 42 psi boost. I plan on replacing them with the stock bolts when I drill them out. Has anyone ever had this problem before? Any suggestions to keep it from happening more?

I have never heard of this happening unless they wernt tightened correctly. I believe they are like most other lug bolts as they are pressed in. Take a big hammer and a punch and pop them out and pull the new ones in with the nuts or hammer them in.

I take it that you are talking about the axle bolts not the wheel studs. Over the years I have seen lots of them break. Mostly caused because they were not torqued properly after a brake job or seal replacement. Replacing the broken ones with stock bolts is fine just make sure torque them. It doesn't hurt to check them once in a while either. We do it at every PM service on our big trucks.

Oops, read it wrong. I broke one taking it out, the factory lock tite thats on them works good and doesnt like impact wrenches. Take them loose with hand tools.

BWILSON, This just happened to my truck but while i was driving it and it busted all eight of them, what did you pay for your bolts dealer told me $22. 00 each i was wandering if you had another source. Where you able to extract or where they just missing? Thanks Jason

I got out all but one (it' still broke in there, tried even to drill it with carbide, man is it hard!!). I don't remember what I apid for the bolts but I know it wasn't $22 each. It was in the range of $4 or 5. And I did get them from the dealer.
