Guys,

What tool do I need to R&R the rear wheel bearings? Just any DANA 70 axle soccet? Have yet to call NAPA. Thinking that's where I'll get it as opposed to Snap-On. Maybe locate one @ Pep-Boys?

Not sure what's on the front of the Chevy trucks. I have the tool for that one.

Thanks guys.

GL... ... ... ... . I believe its a 2 & 9/16" socket. I think mines a proto, its forged aluminum but plenty strong for axle nuts. They also sell stamped steel types ( I've seen them at the heavy duty truck supply ). Just remember to R&R the little locking tabs in the spindle keyway. I've seen them left out. Anti-bueno. Have fun!... ... ... . K2

Sorry to go somewhat OT, but on some sites they are saying to do away with the style of lock our nuts have and switch the assembly out for the type used on the front axle. Anybody done this or have thoughts on it?

ARhine... ... ..... I've heard of guys going to the old jeep front axle style of double nuts with a tabbed washer in between & bent over a nut flat, definitely tried and true method. When I first saw our style U shaped stamped steel locking tabs, I thought to my self, self, this is bogus. However, as time has passed, I've never had a problem with them falling out, moving, or anything else adverse. I do like to use new ones each time, about 75 cent ea. @ your local dana spicer shop or a little more @ DC. I say, RUN em  ... ... ... ... ... . K2

I got rid of the Nyloc nut and wedge and put the adjusting nut with a pin, washer with holes all the way around and the lock nut on the outside like a lot of front axles use. I only did one side when I had a wheel seal fail and I have the parts on the shelf for the other side when it fails.

Scott, there is a company up in Montana that has a kit to allow the old pin type lock to be replaced with a double nut type system. I had the web address on my old computer but the computer died and I lost it. The price was reasonable and I was going to get one the next time I took the rear end apart. Maybe someone else knows what company I'm talking about. I'll look somemore and try to find it.

OK - found it! It's Quad 4x4 and it is in the TDR links. Here is the page that has then and the kits are the "spindle nut replacement kit". $65 for the kit to do both sides and they show the components.
