Does any one know if it is possible to put a bench seat in the rear of a 92 club cab if the jump seats are removed? I have a front bench seat but plan to install buckets with a console and individual adjustment. I would like to compliment it with a rear bench. Anyone ever made this conversion?

Rear Bench Seat

Quite a while back there was a post about this very subject. There is a company that makes a small bench seat that fits the extended cab. I think it was this one http://Flexsteel.com/vehicle/ . The other suggestion was to use the folding rear bench seat from the late 80's early 90's GM extended cab pick up. I know this seat inside and out as I built most of the tooling to produce it. It's quite a good seat, made the old style way, even has No-Sag springs under the foam, and a tublar steel frame.

Rear seat

Here is a picture of a seat that was made for my 1992 extended cab there is not much room for anything except kids but works great for them it was sell the truck or make room for 5, three kids and wife and me email me and will give more info if wanted

If I remember the next time I go to my local auto wreckers I'll try to get pics of the GM rear bench in his '93. He installed the front buckets and console from the same truck-and believe it or not everything looks like it belonged there from the factory. He had to do some bracket work etc. but nothing outside the realm of possibilities for a handy fella.

I have the factory buckets in mine w/ console. I went down 2 weeks ago to a salvage yard and bought an Ext. Chevy Rear bench seat from a 96 model. I bought the brackets along with it. Looks and works greatOo.

Hope this helps you out.

This is a topic of great interest to many including myself.

Cummins2go, who made the seat for you? Was it totally custom and what was the price tag?

Dieselgirl, how easy was it to make the Chevy brackets work? There is a rear seat and brackets out of 91 Chevy at the wrecking yard I can get for $150. May do that if I can get in easily.

Thanks, Ken

I have looked at those but in my opinion that is alot of money for something that looks pretty minimal. Add three seat belts, tax and/or shipping and your probably looking at almost $600  The main thing I don't like is the back support, just a strip that is glued to the back wall.

You can get a front and rear seat combo out of a second gen for about $500 at a wrecking yard. The chevy rear can be had for $150 which looks alot nicer... ...

Just my observations, so take it with a grain of salt... .

Thats the kind of seat I'm lookin for. Man its hard to find a good set for the back. I found the ones with a stick on back panel, not the whole seat like yours.

Looks factory!!!

It was pretty simple. A few mods and wah-la. :D

My Dad help me put it in. I think the Chevy Seat is a little nicer too! Don't get me wrong but $400-$600. I think I would go for the $150.

I paid $100. Brackets and seat for mine. $150. Is a good deal!

Dieselgirl, thanks again for the info. Can you be more specific as to what kind of mods? Did he just use a few spacers, etc. or was there any fabrication involved, welding, etc. ?

Lastly, do you have any pics you can post or e-mail?

Thanks, Ken

Side facing buckets??

Several years ago I looked into this issue. Qualitex Mfg. used to make a bench seat for the 1st gen. Dodge. I assume it would be about the same size as the Chevy. ext rear bench. After close consideration I decided that the leg room would be so limited that it would not be worth it. The depth of the ext cab is very minimal. The heighth is also an issue since the floor of the ext. portion is about 4" higher than the front. I decided that the side facing setup would work best. The jump seats are worthless, so I had a set of steel frames made and mounted one on each side. I then mounted a nice boat seat to each frame. This gave my 2 kids a very comfortable place to ride. I could sit back there, but only for short trips. It also made it possible to put a childs car seat back there, which was impossible with the factory jump seats. I removed the jump seats and used the extra space for storage. I realize you might want to put more than two kids back there so this may not be a solution for you. I have since converted my truck to a crew cab (the final solution for me), but I still have the seats and frames. If you are interested in this idea I would be pleased to send you some photos of the setup so you can copy them or I would be willing to sell the ones I have.

thanks a bunch folks

I didnt realize that so many folks had thought about this subject and I really appreciate the ideas. I going over to the salvage yard and see what I can find. They had a lot of Chevy and very few Dodge, so Im feeling kind of lucky. I will post again when I complete the project and hopefully have some pics.

Thanks again!
