I got rearended a few days ago and wrinkled my bumper. You don't even want to know what happened to the minivan that hit me! Needless to say their insurance co. has given me some $ to get another one. Where to get a good bumper thats chrome plated and not GOLD plated and that will mate up with a reciever hitch?

I don't know if you're open to the idea, but an 8" x 4" rectangular tube (1/4" wall) makes a VERY stout bumper and clears the trailer hitch with no problems.

Here's mine that's 8" x 3":

Since that picture was taken I've added 7/8" screw pin anchors to the two pull pegs... they look great in grey next to that black (Krylon flat black).

I have almost $100 of material in it. If you had someone weld up something like this for you, it could still be had for well under 3 bills.

how's $280?

try dodgeparts.com

That's where I got the price and bought my last bumper. I'm on #3 from hit n' runs... ... ... ... ... . dang em'.

I just spent some time looking at Ranch Hand bumpers. They are not chrome, but are black powder coated. The 10" drop looks really nice especially if you have a 4WD truck but you will loose the ability to carry 1,000/10,000 loads. After a bit of discussion I discovered that an 8" drop will still work with the factory receiver hitch. You will ned to use a drawbar with about 4" of drop because of the ball mount plate on the Ranch Hand. The 8" is not available with back up lights and costs about $400.

I have seen some that were painted or coated white. It may be worthwhile to call and ask if you want something other than black.

I'm glad this came up I've been wanting to replace my rear bumper for a while now. And really didn't do it because I don't need another paper thin bumper on a 6000 LB vehicle. And because I really dont need to spend $1000 dollars on a good one I know two really great welders and I didn't even think about asking them to make me a rear bumper. I'm going stainless. If anyone is interested in getting some pricing from me on these, PM me in a few weeks. One of the welders is a commercial fisherman and he does some iron work in February - April. I think I'll use duaneparks as a templet if he doesn't mind.

Duane Pm or email me if you are interested in making me one out of stainless.

Thanks

Don

Duane- That looks pretty good. Some more pics would be nice (of the mounting). This is a real nice one made by Carriage Works in Oregon:

I was thinking on fabbing up something similar.
