Wondering if anyone on here has replaced a rear crank seal?

I have the trans out, figure may as well do it.

The seal is barely just weeping, but I figure with ~175,000 miles... it's probably worth it.

It looks like a royal pain to remove and replace with the adapter plate on. Should I just remove the plate? I'm not sure what's behind that (gaskets??). .

Help! :)

I have a 99 FSM, it details the seal replacement. It can be done with the retainer in place(easiest) or with it removed(requires removal of oil pan). I can make a copy of the procedure and mail it to you if you need? It's a little long and detailed and it would probably take me longer to type it than it would for the mail to deliver it. bg
