rear dif cover

Looking for a rear dif cover to replace the factory cover. I noticed the paint on the factory cover is flaking off BAD and rusting. Took it to the dealer and he says it isn't a problem, that it is normal surface rust and justs happens. I'm sorry that was the wrong answer, I did not pay for a brand new truck $$$$$ to have to see a rear diff cover covered with rust and possibly problems in the future because of it.

So needless to say I am replacing the cover with something that wont rust and enhances the look and performance. So what do ya'll suggest?

Well, your dealer is right... diff covers do get surface rust on them, as will the remainder of the axle eventually. It does absolutely no harm, other than cosmetic. I recommend you paint your axle regularly with something like Rust-Oleum if you want it to remain rust-free (unless you live in Arizona!).



As for rear-end covers, I recommend the Mag-Hytec available from Genos. It also increases fluid capacity 2 pints.

The Mag Hy-Tec cover looks very nice and it has some advantages over the factory cover, drain and extra capacity to name a couple. I may be putting one on my Christmas list .

Get the Mag-Hytec, I did it, it is well worth the money and it looks great! PLUS it adds 4 guarts of gear oil and has a dipstick to check the levelOo.

Forget the Rust-Oleum. Spend the money once. Wait for the axles to get a solid coat of surface rust then buy "POR 15" other wise known as "Paint Over Rust 15" it is made by Restomotive Laboratories and is pricey, but stuff is like cement once applied. When the instructions say cover what you do not want it on... believe them... . don't worry, it will wear off your hands and skin in a couple of weeks..... I painted an old truck frame with it. Unfortunantly I had to sell the truck and the guy drove it thru 2 winters here in michigan, salt capital... ... metro Detroit. I saw it for sale and the body was rusting but the axles frame and anything I painted with the stuff still looked as good as the day I did it. .

I have used POR-15, and it is outstanding stuff. I just recommended Rust-Oleum because it's easier to apply, so you can do it once a year. But if you've got the time and patience, POR-15 is really good paint.

Hey there are already way too many "followers" on this site, be different and get some other brand differental cover. Go with one in the front to, if it's a 4x4. I saw a newer dodge the other day, the guy had painted the rear cover, and it looked nice.
