I am getting ready to change my rear differential oil for the first time. Never have done this on any vehicle before. I have read a little bit about it but I want to know what everyone here does to change theirs so I will be prepared & won't forget anything. What tools & supplies will I need & what do I look for?

I have a 2004. 5, 3500, 2WD, 48RE auto trans, 3. 73 diff, LSD.

Thanks,

4 quarts of your favorite 75/90 full synthetic GL-5. Gasket is reusable, be carefull tightening the cover bolts, not too tight, good and snug with a 3/8" rachet. You do not need any additive for the anti spin.

One thing I do is jack up each side of the rear to drain the axle housing good. If you are going to do any wiping down inside, make sure you use clean, lint free wipes. Don't use any steel wool to clean anything inside the housing or cover.

Thanks for the info guys. I have one more question I will try asking here. My truck sits on a sloped driveway with the front of the truck higher. Will that cause a problem or should I move it to the street where it is a little more level?

I'd move to where it is more level, also, that way IF you do make a mess, at least it won't be in your driveway! :-laf
