Limited Slip in Front Axle

Guys,

When the diff oil gets real hot, like after a long drive on the Interstate, my diff. will chatter when making a sharp turn at the exit ramp.

You cant tell me "all" exit ramps have something built into them to "fool" unsuspecting motorists into thinking their diff is goofy!

I never heard this until the diff. oil reached 6K miles or so from the last service I performed.

I have the truck over the pit and am giving it the once over again. Everything looks good so far.

Should I add more limited slip additive this time?

Does the additive wear out?

I'm thinking I'll put in two tubes of additive instead of just one this time around... ... whadda you think?

How many ounces did you put in before? You use the 7 or 8 oz or the 4 oz tube? Don't know what the book says, but I always use the 7 oz or 8oz tube. Must be nice having a pit to service your truck:D

I used the 7 oz and will put two of 'em in this time around.

In fact I already did. Don't take long with the oil drain/gear lube pump in the pit:D I also adjusted the rear brakes, parking brake, and rubbed it's belly too ;)

I hope I have found the problem. If not, next time I'll use syn. oil.

Mom's got to where it was grating around sharp corners and turns. So the last time I changed it, (about a week ago) I told her to get the synthetic blend oil (had 2qts already), and 2 tubes of friction modifier. Seems to have worked. She drove it to Dallas and back with no problems. I drove it the other day and had no problems. I wasnt even going to give it a chance to chatter with only one tube. She may have a 1wd in the snow, but at least she wont be out a new set of clutches just yet.

So, yes, I'd go synthetic next time if the 2 tubes dont fix it. Otherwise you may be doing a clutch kit R&R.
